I was thinkin about getting one of those small paintball gun co2 tanks and use that for a temporary setup.. What would be the best way to control how much co2 is let out and when?

I use timed co2 injection. I have an electronic solenoid with a timer the solenoid screws to the tank then plugs into my timeer and goes off when told to.I have a 20# scub diver tank which lasts about 2 weeeks for injecting then needs to be refill

how much does it cost to get a 20oz tank refilled? and where abouts do you go to refill it?

am bout to buy a paintball marker, curious to find some details

it doesnt cost much to get them refilled. around here its only a few bucks (stl)
and you can get them filled up at the local paintball store...maybe walmart?

I have a large tank that is used periodically.
Before you go investing money in co2, what light do you have?
I don't believe co2 would be beneficial in a cfl grow.

Could you explain why CO2 would not be beneficial in cfl grow?
Just curious.

I think it's kind of pointless. I know I am going to get slammed for my opinions here, but after you try it, I think you'll agree.

The reasoning is that marijuana is a plant that has a high light requirement. You are trying to grow it with a low lighting solution, while this will work, adding co2 will not help because of this fact.

As you add co2, all the other requirements for (proper)plant growth need to be met, such as, additional feedings, additional waterings, proper lighting.

If you are growing with cfl's you can't meet the proper lighting requirement.

It is also kind of self defeating to use co2 to increase your yeild, when you choose to light with cfl's which will undoubtly reduce your yeild.

When I grew my mazar, with added co2, I had to give them nutes at double strength, almost daily, actually, it was more like, usually daily. This is a technique called "pushing".

"If you are growing with cfl's you can't meet the proper lighting requirement"

Are you saying that no matter how many CFLs you use or what your total lumens output is, you still won't ever have sufficient to match a HPS, even if you ensure you have the right color spectrum? Intuitively, that doesn't sound accurate.

Okay, here comes the getting slammed part. LoL
In so far as within the context of this thread is concerned.....No, you can not meet the lighting requirement of marijuana to use co2 and see positive results that would justify the cost of the co2, and reep the benefits of the added co2.

VM, what are you basing this on? Is this your intuition or based on researched fact. I am asking because as you know, I am growing with CFLs and I have been adding Co2. I don't want to waste my time if I am not receiving the benefits.

i have soething better then a 400 watt hps..... i got the california sun...........

Dude, if your using a home made solution and you feel it helps, please continue.

I am talking from research I have done on the subject, and quite honestly I've done alot of research on this subject, and some experimentation.

CO2 enrichment is especially effective in environments with high levels of light (and maximises these high levels) because the more light that is available to the plant, the more CO2 it can use (for photosynthesis).

It is also important that it be used in a "closed environment" so that the co2 does not escape.

By choosing CFL's you have not maximized the photosynthesis activity, and although the plant will adapt to your choice of lighting, it is not accustomed to a low light environment, or the slower rate of growth that a cfl will produce.

I've heard all sorts of mis-information on co2 usage, from don't waste your time using it during vegging, to it will decrease potency if used during flowering, both of which are not true. Co2 is beneficial all throughout the plants life cycle, and I do not believe it will reduce potency at all.

I hope this helps you hearmenow, you know I think the world of you!

ok so what do you need to add to a bottle of gas? for it to work? as my bro has just started working at a paintball warehouse the only one in the uk..!!

and im sure if i offer him some green he can get hold of one or 2..!!

VM, thanks for the info. Personally, I don't think I am making a big difference using Co2. My little yeast and sugar method I don't think produces enough to make much of a difference. As you know, I have been toying with the idea of dry-ice for my grow but like you, I am still researching.

Good for you dude! The bottom line about growing, is that everyone has an opinion that they believe in. You need to take responsability for your grow, and decide what works for you, and for your situation.

I can assure you, when I turn on the co2, the difference from today's growth, to tomorrow is dramatic!
In fact my neighbor is also growing, we have some of the same seeds too, and when he comes over and sees mine....he's jealous.

well if u have a gun, put it under water and unscrew it until it starts leaking, that way u know how much its leaking, then i dunno just let it constantly leak till its empty? thats the simplest thing i can think of if u get a slow leak it might last for a week or so till u have to refill

Fletch had it right for paintball CO2 tanks.

I dont think fletch is using those small co2 cartridges at all. I think he has one about the same size as mine.

I also don't agree with you hossfield that you'll get a week out of one paintball co2 cartridge. That would be really cool though.
Peace
