Howdy RIU!

Just received my beans today! I have a holiday to take in late July so I am going to try to get a papaya from seed to harvest before I have to leave. She is on a 12 hour distilled water soak right now then itll be straight into a 0.3 gal air pot with a 40% ffof 30% black forest compost mix 30% perlite. I will be using the general organics feeding schedule. The environment is the Secret Jardin DR60 so ~2'x2'x5'. I have a rocketfish(orshark) 120mm cpu fan which will be actually blowing air in from the lower vent. This makes a passive out take which blows the tent up nicely helping to increase light reflection. Considering my utter lack of heat issues I am not too worried about that vent setup. I will also have a small laptop fan circulating air above the canopy when I start scrogging.

Whew, pics when I get it all set up tonight...

and feel free to post thoughts right in this thread, I really dont mind, unless you are one of those know it all types... you know who you are lol!

5:40pm seed goes into soil. I went with Mushroom Compost instead of Black Forest. I cant find my cell phone charger so pics might wait till tomorrow, but rly theres not a lot to take a pic of lol. Hoping I get ground break in less than 3 days, its rough knowing she is down there. I watered with spring water and superthrive, just to kick things off in the right direction....

pics as soon as she pops out!

cheers chummer, I got em b/c they are said to be short, compact and 7-9weeks flower time (maybe more as I am LED/cfling)

edit: I also have 5x fem snow white and 5x fem ice and 4 more papaya, I dont want to germ them until I get back from Europe, so mid August... any tips on storing them for that long? I mean, do I need to go get silica packs and stuff for keeping only 7 months?

Do you have all your ph and Tds meters? If not i would definitely grab a cheap digital ph meter and some calibration solution, check the runoff and make sure your water is phing ok. I only mention this cause i used a new soil last grow myself and got off to a poor start due to my ph meter messing up and me further messing up the water mix.

I think you forgot to mention what lights and how many you ended up with :p

Wow replies i missed already.

I wold maybe pop a snow white, its my personal favorite so far, a really nice strain and decently short in stature. Best high i have ever had.

hmmmmm, I may just do that Karr!

Lights are as follows:-

4x 26watt 6500k cfls until its fully into seedling stage (maybe 5 days after ground break)

once its doing fine and has a couple nodes I will add my spectra 100 starting at about 36" and I will keep my cfls low

inch spectra down slowly to about 18"

basically just that until I start weaving her through a screen, then I will add my Blackstar 240 and probably a shit ton more cfls (space depending) but I have 2x55w soft white, 4x 42w soft white, and 4x 26w 6500k.

we will see how much she can handle though, I will be adding light intensity gradually as I have taken heed of much advice regarding letting LEDs get really close.

edit: I have ph meter, moisture meter no TDC yet but its on the way from ebayland as we write, oh yes and I have a temp/humidity meter, which is reading about 70f and 39% humidity right now.

Alright so just because i am bored right now I went ahead and took pics of the tent and the pot of dirt sitting in the middle of it lol. Plus I think more ppl look at your threads when they see the "attachment" logo on it.

not sure yet, I was thinking plastic deer fencing, it will be strong enough to support but its not like thin sharp metal wire so there wont be any dmg to the plants (not sure if this is an issue but when training bonsai trees you have to be careful not to let them scar on your wires.

Sub'd glad I caught this one at the beginning.
hello and welcome, I'm glad you caught it too. I have a DWC system (1plant) on the way. I got a cheap one from htgsupply. So I might put that one in the tent and move my air pot soil grow into a home made box 18"Dx36"Wx27"H, and do a scrog in that too. I think I will put "ice" in the dwc. Anyone have advice on best nute package for DWC hydro? I've never done it b4 so something on the simple side would be best.

Day 2- no ground break, but really it has only been like 20hours since I got the beans so I am being a tad impatient lol... I hate this part.

I have noticed that my little plastic lid hasnt developed any condensation. Is this because more water evaporates out of the little air holes on the sides of the pot? Temp is 80F but RH is pretty low due to house heat being on (electric baseboard) RH:-30%. I put 2 small plates filled with water in the tent to try and get some moisture in the air. From what I can tell low humidity is easier to deal with than high humidity. I can just compensate with light misting right?

decided last night to pop a 2nd papaya, 2 snow white and 2 ice. Total of 6 plants. I def dont have space for them all, probably I will take the best one of each strain and grow them out.

I am also building a cool stealth box (my fiance has kindly let me dismantle a set of dresser drawers). I have been taking pics of the progress on that but it wont be finished until tonight. Or maybe tomorrow morning, the extra beans soaked overnight and are now in paper towels. I plan on using my nifty new drill (bought yesterday) to turn some old nursery pots into "airpots" as I dont want to fork out more cash for them.

pics as soon as anything pic worthy happens!

really, why? I am on a time budget so I cant afford to wait a couple months or anything. I go to Europe for 2 or 3 weeks at the end of July so I cant have anything going on while I am away (no one to take care of them). I still have 3xice 3xpapaya and 3xsnow white left to work with when I get home.

shit well its too late now the process has begun, maybe i shoulda waited... oh well, maybe I will just build some more grow environments and grow 6 scrogs! I would still be well under my legal limit of 15 plants.

Day 3: Still no ground break, really hoping to see something tomorrow morning.

Heres my progress on my stealth cab, I think its destiny is to become a flowering box for clones.

So I took the drawers out and removed the spacers in between and put a coat of flat white on the inside
2012-02-04_17-39-49_231.jpg2012-02-04_18-35-03_939.jpg

I took the front panels off of each drawer and wood glued them together along with the spacers, to create a large door that still looks like a dresser from the front:

another coat of paint on the inside and I drilled 1" holes along the bottom panel for passive intake, I will have these all the way around the bottom:

I took 2 panels from the bottom of a drawer and drilled holes in them, I will paint them white and fix them to be the floor of the cabinet so air will come in thru the side vents and up thru the floor, I am hoping that this is sufficient to keep it light proof but I will have to come to that later.

my fiance found this thing by a dumpster lol, makes me think I should start converting junk furniture and selling them on craigslist lol its pretty fun.
