Paper clips for LST instead of clothes hangers?

Take a second to think about what LST really is...

..you can use ANYTHING so long as it's not going to contaminate the plant. You could build small replica bridges to LST your plant if you so wished.

you dont think after time it would start to cut through the plant?? thats all im worried about becasue a paperclip is thin. its kinda late ive already done it but i could attempt to change it if i needed to

If you wrap it around the stem to the extent that it can't expand then yes, a plants stem will thicken as it grows.

yup, just watch how tight it is on there, i use whatever i can find at times.. i prefer bread ties because they have the waxy plastic or paper coating, but i do have a spool of steel wire i cut up into little lengths and they work fine. I have had them cut into a couple of stems before, but it was a little too tight and the stem still carried nutes where they needed to go

this is exactly what i like to do.. i used the thin steel wire to wrap around the pots, and used the bread bag ties to attach the plant to attach the branches to the metal wire..

i just unfolded a paper clip and mad it a u shape and put in around the stem and stuck it in the ground. the plant is still small but when it gets bigger i plan on switching to a nylon string. im just hoping the plant doesnt pull the paper clip out of the ground, but it seems to actually be starting to grow upwards and not pulling up but just continuing to grow so might be fine

I rather LST my plant before scrroggin it but use it'#s final DWC tote, so i need good lengths, i opted for a cheap and chearful spool of green coated gardening wire. You can just bend it a few times and snap it by hand, very useful :) Probably only a touch thicker than paperclips

I'd much rather do a scrog for sure but im not sure its good for my type of set-up i didnt know you could keep a scrog so low and so i decided not to grow in a rubbermaid but i think next time im gonna give it a try. its nice to have a little compact grow. Its like a mini bud producing machine lol.

i have some eye hooks that you screw in, and attach them to the top rim of the pot, i use soil tho,...

ive tried sticking mine in soil but the soil mix i made doesnt get compact enough to hole it real well.

ill tell you what you dont want to use tho, and thats weed eater string, it gouged into the stem worse than anything.

You can have a scrog as low as you like. It's all just a matter of putting into 12/12 at the appropriate time and training her as low down as possible. I've often considered cutting my scros stand from 10 or 12 inches down to say 6.

I recently discovered something similar that I really like. I had this spool of steel wire in the basement. No idea what it's used for, but it's about 20 guage. I can cut any length and bend a "J" on both ends. Hook one on a stalk and the other on my scrog. Even 3 foot stalks can be bent over easily..no tying or twisting. Just dangle the wire down and hook it on. Reusable.

The only concern I have is the bare steel. However apparently such wire that is plastic or vinyl coated is available too. If anybody wants pics of the method I'll oblige but it's pretty simple.

lol, well i will keep that in mind, i dont have a weed eater as i live in an apartment so im pretty sure i dont have to worry about making that mistake. ive seen those eye hooks used, i like the idea of putting those all around the pot then you have plnty of places to tie strings to, but i could just as easy poke hols in the pot

i wouldnt worry about getting the coated if you have the steel wire already...
I use the double j method most of the time unless i cant have it sliding then i do more of a wrap.
