PAR T5's, Bagseed, FFOF, and me!

Hey guys... been meaning to put this up since the site crashed... had it in my journal, but fuck a journal, I hate the way it doesn't let me keep everything in one thread... so here we are in the Grow Journal forum!

Grow Specs:

Lighting:

Vegged under horrible CFLs, three 6500k's, not even sure what the wattage was. Definitely not enough light. Was a matter of limitations of space at the time, though.

Flowering:
10-Bulb 48" PAR T5 setup including the following bulbs:
-4 Zoomed Flora Suns
-2 Wavepoint Coral Waves
-2 UVL Red Suns/Lifes
-2 KZ Fiji Purples

Medium:

FoxFarm's Ocean Forest blend in 5 Gallon Smart Pot bags. Supplemented with dolomitic lime, can't remember exactly how much.

Grow Space:

Vegged in a very uncomfortably cramped tiny ass space with the CFL's... then got them into a HydroHut 2x4 Silver Edition for flowering.

Ventilation:

240cfm Panasonic Whisperline 6" pulling air off the ballasts directly with this custom-mickey-moused "cooltube" jobby:

w/passive intake. No circulation fans at all. I wedged a few bits of wood between the reflectors and the ballast box so there is a little bit of wayward current created by the cooltubing.

Maintains steady about 8 degrees over room temp.

Feeding:

I am using FoxFarm's full liquid trio and solid trios in combination. I followed the chart to the T the first time and ended up with major nute overloads, so this time i started about 1/4th the chart's recommended dosages and have inched my way up. I am still feeding below the chart's recommended dosages at this point. I am also learning to read my plants better, so I am giving them what they need when they need it, rather than just shoving a bunch of food down their throats. This is working a lot better so far. I've done one flush, on about 3-31, just to be sure I'm not getting too salted up. With the full feeding amount, it felt like i was constantly flushing, then overfeeding, then flushing, back and forth. (If anyone's interested in the first grow, let me know and I will put up a separate journal that summarizes it.)

Genetics:

Bag seed baby! These are clones of bagseed actually...

Okay, so here's some background on the genetics:

I grew my first crop of 7 bag seed ladies, who all turned out female by chance. I called them my Lucky 7. :) Several variations in strain, and some nice options to choose from, so I made 5 clones of each plant. However... due to my ignorance, I ended up with mold growing on the clones and lost all but about 6 of them. Two of them I flowered out in solo cups 12/12 from clone, for fun, because I had never done it. 3 of them went into larger containers from the solo cups, 5 gal smart pots. And the remaining one I ended up leaving in a solo cup and growing with the 5 gal smart pots, lol. This was due to space limitations in the make-shift veg chamber I built. (Really cramped, and only 3 CFLs for light)

However, when I finally had the room, I moved the 3 5gal'ers into a larger space. I did take that solo cup rootbound lady and finally transplanted. She is now thriving in a fairly small (2 gal?) standard pot. She is really growing beautifully. It's just taken a long time for her to get back up to speed, heh. But I am surprised by how well she bounced back... so I am saving her to take clones again later. (Mommy!)

ANYWAY, the 3 5gal bags are what we are tracking in this thread. They vegged under low light CFL's and developed pretty bad canopies as a result... stretching and unevenness galore... BUT... I popped them into 12/12 under nice T5's and they bounced back considerably. Then, about 2 weeks too late, I scrogged them all as well.

They went into 12/12 on Feb. 6th. Scrogged the 22nd.

Here is a summary of what I've taken so far for pics... plan to update this thread regularly from now on... unfortunately the earlier shots were dislocated in the crash and I have no idea what the dates were on them... but here's where my attachments list does pick up, on 3/22:

More to come... this is my first attempt at a grow journal so please let me know if I missed any important information! Thanks!!

Thanks man!

I don't know how I feel about FF products... I wish they were really organic. I don't like the salt-base. I don't like having to flush at all... I had really poor luck with it the first time when I went with the full recommended doses... but it has been a lot smoother with the cut doses. In the future I think I am going to try something different... but I still have so much FoxFarm solids left, I might still use those during flowering...

Dude, that is EXACTLY what I was looking at, Earth Juice! I love the idea of going all natural so I don't have to flush! I was thinking about building up a super soil but I have been lazy and haven't prepped it yet, so I might grab something like this for my next run! I haven't looked specifically into Sea Blast yet, but I hear great things about Earth Juice in general!

I find even with AN you will have to cut the recommended dose, but I do have to agree, not flushing, or flushing for a couple days would be nice. I'm currently using AN's Sensi line and am loving it, but I will find out soon enough if the love stays or goes lol.

To be clear, I'm talking about flushes DURING the grow, not at the end. Some call it "leeching"... it is when you flush through with about 2x the pot's size in water (so 4 gals in a 2 gal pot for instance) if you look at FoxFarm's schedule, they have you flush with their "sledgehammer" formula (more money money money for them) every few weeks during the grow. It's a bunch of bullshit.. they sell you nutes full of salts that will clog up your medium if you use it at their recommended dosage.. and then they conveniently recommend you flush with sledgehammer every few weeks. It's a fuckin' racket, they be runnin' us for our money, imho. It's not for me, that's for sure... I ended up fucking confused as hell and flushing even more often because of the overfeeding... it was my first try though.

As for flushing at the end, I have not done that at all so far, save for making sure to water with plain the last couple times. no biggie so far. My buds came out great and tasted great. I gave them a long, slow dry.. about 12 of drying, because I had good humidity in the room and left the leaves all on during drying. Then I cured as recommended, and the stuff was fire. Burned nice too. I am speculative about "end of grow flushing" at best. :) I firmly believe that a proper dry and cure is more critical.

Blood, where's your journal? I didn't see a link!

The sea blast has a really good blend in it. And the price on it is perfect for me. Doesnt cost a fortune either.

Sounds good! With the add-ons it'd be the same number of "ingredients" as I have in my foxfarm line... how necessary are they all? What is catalyst? And that Grand Finale link faceplanted ;)

Sorry about the link, was on the phone and not paying a ton of attention. Here is what is said about it.

The #1 additive for hydroponics & soil gardener's worldwide! Earth
Juice® Catalyst is a premium organic nutrient additive that encourages compact
branching, stimulates optimal fruiting sites and triggers early yields. Contains
enzymes, hormones, vitamins, amino acids, nutrients and surfactants to complete
your fertilization program. Highly recommended for use with indoor and outdoor
plants, soil and hydroponics. Best to use in conjunction with NPK
fertilizers.

I see, so catalyst is a 'gap filler' to provide all the thangs that will help it along... except of course the micro-organisms they sell in the other bottle, lol. They always find a way to get ya...

Yeah they seem to, but I will say that price wise Earth Juice almost cant be beat. And so far I really like the results. Also have noticed that it is really hard to nute burn with Earth Juice. Fox Farms I cant say the same for.

indeed, I have had some bad luck with FF burns. I will definitely go with Earth Juice when I restock. My Big Bloom is almost gone, but I still have a good amount of Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and the solids. I was thinking about repackaging the solids for sale on ebay... not sure if I can get away with that or not... I see it all the time, though, from vendors... they break open the package and make little packs for people.. (should have bought those... d'oh)

Fed my ladies today for the first time since that big flush... took a full 5 days to dry out enough to rewater... and they grew SOOOO much in those 5 days... can't wait to see how they react to their first re-feeding.

I've got another batch going in veg. that's about to get transplanted to their new 3gal air pots... gonna start up a journal for that shortly, maybe later today.

i must of been somewherepast the clouds in outerspace when i read this last night, but its you! and i was completeley interested and only remember seeing purple and couldnt figure out where the thread was, but subbd now fer sure your lucky to have the space to do some nice artwork
