I've known people to cover single branches of their plants with a bag in order to determine sex, and this got me thinking.
What if one grew a large bush and systematically flowered individual branches to produce a constant yield? Would the branches even flower to full maturity or would the flowers and pistils remain immature as long as the rest of the plant stayed in veg?
I'm thinking this could go two ways. The darkened branch could produce flowering hormones, these would diffuse throughout the plant and nothing would receive a sufficient quantity to induce complete flowering. Or, the darkened branches could produce the hormone, it could remain in the dark branches only and the lit branches would continue photosynthesizing, giving the flowering parts an extra boost of nutrients and sugars for growth.
It might prove more of a hassle than the regular harvest method, but could be interesting.
