You should drop that cup inside another cup! It will still let those holes air prune the roots but blocks the light from killing the roots! It will help keep things clean when you water it, soil will spill into the cup instead of the the floor!

Good luck with the cups everyone!

light doesnt kill roots,I dont know why you would say that
the only adverse effects of growing in transparent containers is the growth of algae on the inside of the cup...
BUT since my cup is green,it will prohibit algae growth....
I use a separate cup to put water in and let air pruner pot soak in it...all clean here...

Sorry, but light is not good for the roots! Short term exposure wont kill them but growing them in a clear cup does kill off the roots, kinda like air pruning. I've done a few party cup grows, I also did one in a clear cup (purple tint). I didn't have any algae growth, it dried out way to fast for that It's not a hydro cup, once these things start growing they drink a lot of water! I had to water mine twice a day ! The only problem I did have is my roots started dying/not growing from the light exposure! It didn't kill the whole root system but it did start killing roots and the plant was stunted! Barely any roots on the 3rd one! There are a couple on the bottom where the light didn't get to and almost none on the sides! I didn't even post pictures of it

Why would a clear cup make it dry out faster?

never said a clear cup would make it dry out faster, they just don't have much soil so they drink it fast! I had to water all my cups twice a day!
