Passive intake vents and light leakage - how much does it really matter?

So with a typical small (2’x4’x5’) grow tent (like the one I use) there are often these rectangular shaped vents (with fine mesh covering them and reclosable Velcro cover-flaps on the outside) near the bottom that are commonly used for passive air intake if you’re using an in-line fan system to blow out hot air up top.

Anyway from your experience, when you switch over to 12/12 how important is it to keep those vents completely covered from any light?

I’ve heard multiple takes on this - from “you can’t let a drop of light in” (and need to make a light blocking system that allows air in) to “it’s fine to leave the Velcro flaps open as long as the room’s light is kept low” because in nature there it is often not 100% pitch black conditions everywhere due to stars and various other forms of light pollution. plus the fine mesh will block enough light to keep it in the amount of darkness it needs.

what do you guys think? Does anyone leave those vents open and just keep the outside room light to a minimum during periods where the plants are supposed to be in darkness?
