ok lets see... where do i start.
well ive been growin outdoors and organically for about 5 years now.
i think im ready to take my hand at indoor!
i will be using my own compost as soil. i would like to keep it as organic as i can.
i have no equipment what so ever! im a little tight on money so i would like to know what kind of lights i should use (type and wattage) that are a decent price.
also where can i purchase them at?
i am not familiar with timers either lol.
i know i need to get some fans and mylar. where can i purchase the mylar too?
i am goin to be using a my closet. it can probably fit up to 4 or 5 plants. i have a nice shelving on one of the sides and on the top where i can rig shit up to.
i will post of some pictures of the closet in just a few mins.
i extremely appreciate everyone who is goin to help me with the low-down on growing indoors!
+ reps will be in order to the worthy lol
much love to my fellow grower babies! :bigjoint:

candles?! That ain't the old days, son. In the REALLY old days we used the moonlight reflecting from our eyes in 10 feet of snow for 25 miles! Without soil, or clothing!

walmart should be your first stop. get a few 23w or higher CFLs, your timer, a small fan, an emergency blanket or 2(its practically made of mylar), Y-splitters (if your walmart sells em, mine never did) some solo cups and pots(if you dont have them) and get anything else you need while there

Shenanigans aside, it looks like you have a good grasp of what you need.

Lights, well, how "tight" is money? Are we talking $20, or $200? CFLs are cheap, but you need LOTS of them. I like T5 HO fluoros over CFLs, but they're more expensive. Less trouble in the long run, though. You could get a 400W HPS for like $150, but then you need cooling/ventilation, etc.

A hydroponics store should have everything you're looking for as far as mylar, lights, timer - if you're gonna do CFLs then basically any hardware store or department store has bulbs and timers and you can use emergency blankets or mylar wrapping paper instead of the "professional" mylar.

Compost...I wouldn't use straight compost. Mix it with some perlite or vermiculite and some peat moss for drainage/aeration.

Y splitters screw into the light socket and you can then put 2 bulbs into one fixture. I found them at Lowe's for like $2 each, when Wal Mart didn't have them.

im willing to spend like 60 to 70 bucks on lights. yea i dont think i can afford hps yet lol.
in the compost i do add perlite and peat moss. i shoulda said that in my post. i have all the soil and pot supplies. just need to get a smaller fan, timer, mylar and lights.
thanks dude!:leaf:

find a grow store near to you.
go in and tell the guys that you want to grow *something that cannot be grown outdoors in your climate* and want to do it in
your closet.
they can help you set up things the right way.

WElll......you can start em with cfls...but it's gonna add up, and it won't be as good as you want. You'll keep needing more and more as they get bigger.I really enjoyed using my 150 watt hps, but for 4 or five, you'll need more light. This is a refurbished 400 watter from ebay for 95 bucks. I can't personally vouch for the seller...http://cgi.ebay.com/Econo-Hydroponic-400-Watt-HPS-Grow-Light_W0QQitemZ110428500547QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b60d3243&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Here are some more.....

And I've heard good things about t-5's,but they can get expensive.
Basically, from my own personal experience, when I added up what i spent on cfl's it came to about 150 all together just for the bulbs I bought, plus I had to buy power strips and y sockets to rig them up.I was way happier with my 150 watt hps.You could get a 400 watter at htg for around the same price. It's not really a "cheap" hobby,lol.http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47929

this is a Y splitter and they are a great way to double your light

your closet looks OK, maybe you should get some tube floros and a lowrvder something strain. bang out alot of small plants quick, ya feel. you could have 12 autoflower strains of different ages under the same light scheduale and finish at seperate times and BLAH BLAH BLAH

Peace....In your closet grow you will need to be concerned with heat first. Even if you used flouros, it can easily get in the 90's. Do you have the ability to leave the door open during lights on?

Instead of buying mylar or insulating blankets...simply get flat white interior paint from Lowes or Home Depot or Walmart. You can also buy a couple clusters of T-5 HO, some small fans and off you go.

Go window shopping for:
Flat white interior paint & brushes
T-5 HO (high output) lights & bulbs
Fans
Containers
Drip trays to put the containers in
Maybe grow bags?

Price all that stuff and see if it fits in your budget. We can trim things as we go.

Odor will be a concern also....maybe not right away, but in a few weeks.

i dont think i can paint the closet tho cuz its not my place and im renting.
