Getting statistics from calling people and asking them if they've ever used an illicit drug is not going to give you a very honest survey, so I don't know about your numbers. But then again I don't know how your numbers have been obtained. But I did find a link on Cannabis use and the brain.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/highdose-cannabis-stimulates-growth-of-brain-cells-in-rats-510869.html

Interesting statement from your link there...
Natural selection has conserved cannabinoid receptors in animals that have been separated by evolution for 500 million years, suggesting they have an important biological role. Cannabinoids appear to alter the effects of pain,Nausea
, tumours, sclerosis and other disorders in both animals and humans, the team says.

I would probably be considered an amateour as far as you guys go, but i have done my fair ammount of research and have a fair ammount of knowlege on the subject. i have been smoking consistently for 4 years now at the age of 20. There is no question marijuana has some effects on life, but guess what everyone has these vices, joggers, workaholics, alchaholics, and so on. Marijuana is without question the least harmful, amoung drugs that someone can use. IM not gonna run through the numbers with all of you but think about.... espcially you medicine man... if you could do it all over again, and not take that first hit of weed... would you?

I'm very interested in why Medicineman even started this thread in a forum that caters to people who smoke the sacred herb. What kind of response did you expect? It's kind of a no brainer that anything done to excess is never a good thing.

This coming from the same site that published this:

Myth: Marijuana Is More Potent Today Than In The Past. Adults who used marijuana in the 1960s and 1970s fail to realize that when today's youth use marijuana they are using a much more dangerous drug.

Fact: When today's youth use marijuana, they are using the same drug used by youth in the 1960s and 1970s. A small number of low-THC samples seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration are used to calculate a dramatic increase in potency. However, these samples were not representative of the marijuana generally available to users during this era. Potency data from the early 1980s to the present are more reliable, and they show no increase in the average THC content of marijuana. Even if marijuana potency were to increase, it would not necessarily make the drug more dangerous. Marijuana that varies quite substantially in potency produces similar psychoactive effects.

the United Nations Office on Drugs said in its annual World Drug Report.
Around 12.5 percent of Americans, or 39 million people between the ages of 15 and 64, smoked pot in 2008, up from 12.3 percent the year before, the Vienna-based organization said in its 312-page report. The Pacific island-nation of Palau is the world’s top per-capita cannabis consumer with 24 percent of the population smoking pot.

Any ne sayers just need to observe one country... Portugal....... The first counrty in the world to completely decriminalize marijuana......... it saw its first drop in crime rate in years along with a more innocent look at marijuana and offers help to people addicited to crack, coke, heroine, pcp and other narcotics istead of spending tax payers money on prosecuting and persuing these "criminals"

Regardless of how many people use Cannabis, EVERYBODY that wants to should be free to do so. Unregulated and untaxed. Anything less is an incremental form of slavery.

A few people have called me out on my 1 percent evaluation of pot smokers in America. Well According to "Facts and Myths", the following applies:
http://www.drugpolicy.org/marijuana/factsmyths/

Fact: Most people who smoke marijuana smoke it only occasionally. A small minority of Americans - less than 1 percent - smoke marijuana on a daily basis. An even smaller minority develop a dependence on marijuana. Some people who smoke marijuana heavily and frequently stop without difficulty. Others seek help from drug treatment professionals. Marijuana does not cause physical dependence. If people experience withdrawal symptoms at all, they are remarkably mild.

I smoked for more than 30 years, daily basis, about 1-2 OZs a week. I thought I was pretty normal and pot was not a problem. Turns out I was wrong. Pot was having an influence on my thinking, 24-7. I know not if my life would have been any different, but nonetheless, it did have an influence on me. For one thing, one of the most important things in my life was pot, did I have enough, would I run out, where could I get more, was I going to get busted, in fact I did get busted in a 30lb transaction (Sale). That was a bad day. I skated with 15 days and a 1,000 dollar fine and 2 years probation, now days, it would be much harsher. You all can live in that state of denial if you choose, but think about it, what is really important in your lives? Is pot the #1 importance in your lives?
Sir I believe your facts, but I am like you 40+ years smoking every day. Just hoping you could count me twice since I smoke so long. Thank You

I've never considered pot smoking a criminal act, but you must admit, some criminals smoke pot.
they also drink alcohol, are all alcohol drinkers going to be lumped in as criminals also?

hell im sure criminals eat pizza, better watch out next time you call dominoes, you might have someone report you to the cops for having pizza.

one has nothing to do with the other so why you bring up criminals smoking pot is beyond me.

Cops are criminals whenever they enforce a victimless crime, they think their criminal actions are somehow validated as acceptable because
other criminals called bureaucrats give them YOUR money to make them arrest you for self ownership. Round and round they go.

i wouldnt say the cops are criminals but they are pawns used by the government in an attempt to impose their will of right and wrong on others over things that harm nobody else besides the end user. people who become cops only learn what they are taught, if they are taught that people smoking pot is wrong, that's all they know.

not all cops agree with drug laws, i know that but they have a job to do and while i wouldnt say calling it their job makes it ok they cant pick and choose what laws to enforce. it is their own fault for not standing up for their principles and refusing to do a job they dont agree with though.

the real criminals are the ones making the laws.

to the original post nothing more nothing less

The laws against marijuana consumption drives the criminal like behavior your associating with it, they make it so you have to be a criminal to obtain this stuff. I mean the reason there's even such a steep market for this stuff is because we have a prohibition on it. People didn't bootleg just cause they wanted to get drunk during prohibition. They were looking to profit on a hot commodity by hot, I mean dangerous but high in demand. What is weed now a days, a hot commodity. The streets are filled with urban Al Capone s' of the cannabis gang.

Look up on your bods ECS (Endocannibinoid System) and tell me that its not healthy to reset your receptors and also overload them as well.

According to the 2010 annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) there are 17,400,000 PAST MONTH smokers of marijuana. There are 243,273,505 persons in the U.S. age 16 and over (U.S. 2010 census). Consequently, one could assume that about 7.15% of American adults are regular marijuana smokers - not everyday smokers, but not just occasionally either.

If your numbers are correct then most criminals do not smoke pot therefore pot should be legalized to lower the crime rate. =)

* People I work with, people I know(not friends, just known to me) and people I am related to equals about 10% regular smokers and maybe 15-20% occasional. Friends = about 50%

I am pretty normal and it does not affect me because I do not worry about ever running out, I have never worried about growing and I never sell or buy. I have gone 2 whole days without in the last 10 years and could have fired up wet if I needed to.
