pest question

i have quite a few of these tiny flies flying around in my tent. not sure what they are. or how to control them. they have tiny black bodies with clear wings.

anyone have a direction? and or maybe a prediction as to what they are and what kinda of pest control i should by if need be. ive seen these in my house before, when i wasnt growing. usually in the summer if i remember correctly. i eat alot of fruit so i usually have orange peelings ect in my garbage. which has a lid on it.

Im 16 days into flowering, using coco

They are gnats. There are different ways to deal with them. A common and cheap way id to put some sand on top of your soil and let it dry out just a bit more between watering. They live in the soil.

I believe I read somewhere that the larvae do eat the roots, the adult gnats really don't do any harm besides lay more larvae. I would go with the sand method and just wait it out. Some guy i subscribed to tried the hydrogen peroxide method and his plants are worse because of it. Add the sand wait maybe an extra day or 2 before you water and that should kill off any larvae in the soil while the sand prevents anymore from entering.

Beer doesn't ferment nearly as well as apple cider vinegar and it doesn't do anything about the larvae eating his roots that are already in the soil. If you want to try the whole "Lure the gnats away from soil thing" try fermenting yeast, vinegar and i've seen one video where a guy did it with heavily sugared coffee.

i tried the sugard coffee. nothing was in the cup of coffee after 12 hours. i did add a good layer of sand ontop of the soil. next question.

how do i water with the sand on it? u can use sand to prevent floods. do i take it off the top then water, then put it back on?

Also im using smart fabric pots. can gnats actually get into the smart pots from the side. bc the fabric does breathe. so there has to be little holes for these gnats to push through?

for the adults vinegar, water and a few drops of dish soap in a bowl/cup mixed.
for the kids a mix of water and mosquito dunk.

nematodes, home depot sells them . The buds will take care of the adults, who needs sticky traps

well, I was being a little sarcastic and meant the things WILL stick to your buds . they're easily knocked down with some sort of oil based spray though or bait them like people have mentioned, personally I'd get out a spray bottle and mix just a little purespray green (its petroleum oil) and take them out one by one if I had to.actually I have a quart of pyganic I'd probably use since it did cost me 180 bux.

lol i kinda thought thats what u meant. alright. thannks bro. so should i scrap the idea of having the sand on the soil and watiting to water for a few extra days to dry up the soil? are lavre visible? if i go through the soil bit would i be able to see them?

if you can get nematodes at home depot (they are on the webpage) that's just personally what I would do. larvae can be see in runoff sometimes, I'm not real familiar with soil but my brief personal experience I would do the nematodes and if for some odd reason that didn't work I'd go with BT (mosquito dunks) and if that didn't work rather than burn the place down I'd get that shit with cedar oil in it and do a drench, The BT is supposed to make them stop eating right off which would be a good thing, then they get sick end die. The nematodes actually enter every motherfucking orifice those little bastard larvae have and I like this idea.

if you got hydro stores in the area nematodes can be had there too. I just mentioned home depot because I get flamed a lot recommending nematodes when some people here live in fairly remote areas with no hydro stores, but hell home depot is every-fucking-where.

Just put enough sand to cover the first inch or so. Don't pack it in there. People use sand in soil like they use perlite. I think while the other methods are probably better are getting rid of gnats, if the gnats don't lay their egg in the soil(because they don't lay eggs in non-organic material) that means no more larvae, which in the end means no more gnats. Adult gnats usually don't live that long.
