Dear Friends,
The Committee for a Safer Michigan is proud to announce a petition drive to end the prohibition of marijuana. This ballot initiative will give Michigan citizens the opportunity to vote in November 2012 for a constitutional amendment to end marijuana prohibition for adults aged 21 and over. This bill will not make it legal for anyone to drive while impaired or change workplace policies/regulations.
Outlawing (prohibiting) marijuana has not:
• Reduced its availability;
• Made society safer;
• Reduced access to marijuana for minors.
Marijuana prohibition in Michigan has:
• Made it easier for minors to obtain marijuana;
• Decreased the health and public safety of Michigan families;
• Eroded the public’s relationship with law enforcement;
• Wasted limited law enforcement and municipal resources;
• Created massive profits for drug cartels and terrorists;
• Denied relief to the suffering of seriously ill, injured, and dying citizens.
The actual petition drive is underway. We will continually be signing up volunteers and organizing the campaign. All petition signatures need to be collected by July 9th, 2012.
We hope you will want to join our efforts. Please download the volunteer sign-up sheet and a copy of this explanation letter. Forward this letter, sign-up sheet and guidelines to ask your friends to be volunteers and send to your social networks. Make copies to share where you live and where you visit during the holidays. Sign up your friends and family (even grandma). We need volunteers from all walks of life. There is a place for everyone in this movement.
We will continually be looking for circulators to sign up volunteers and organizers to work in several ways:
• To be the public contact people for our effort in their town or county so interested people can contact them to volunteer. The Contact person will relay their information to our state office;
• To be local organizers to oversee circulators and create a local action group;
• We also need volunteers willing to donate money, services, office supplies, etc.;
• Administrative support such as database building and phone calls;
• Hands-on work such as manning fundraisers and events.
About Us: We are a committee comprised of Michigan parents and grandparents, teachers and students, attorneys, health professionals, law enforcement and many others who come from a wide range of backgrounds and beliefs. The one thing we agree on is that marijuana prohibition has failed to protect the public health and safety of Michigan families. We want police to reallocate time and resources from enforcing marijuana prohibition to protecting our community from violent crime.

2012 Michigan Ballot Initiative to End Marijuana Prohibition
We need volunteers AND please BRING your completed petitions to TURN IN
Dear Volunteers,
Spring has arrived! Warm weather brings plenty of opportunities to get involved with the signature gathering campaign. This weekend offers several fun very special events where we will need volunteers to help set up our tables and to do petitioning.
We need volunteers to help gather signatures and work the booths. And please don't forget to BRING your completed petitions to TURN IN and be counted. This will help us increase our signature count exponentially. We are off to a great start, but we still have much work to do. Thank you so much. We can do this!
We are asking everyone to turn in your completed petitions this weekend. You can send them to the office or come to the events in Ann Arbor for the MINORML meetings, Hash Bash, and Monroe Street Fair. Let's make those signatures COUNT!
I also invite you to join our friends at MINORML and attend their fundraising dinner on Saturday evening at the Clarion Hotel in Ann Arbor. We will raise awareness and funds all while having a great time.
Here's a list of exciting events for this weekend:
1) Thursday April 5 @ 10am-6pm -- Tiger's Opening Day, Grand Circus Park, Detroit
2) Friday April 6 @ 6:30pm-8pm -- MI NORML Quarterly Meeting, Clarion Hotel, Ann Arbor
3) Friday April 6 @ 8pm-- Cannabis Action Network Organization of Women, Clarion Hotel Ann Arbor
4) Friday April 6 @ 9pm -- Special Petition Training by Lou Vierling (You don't want to miss this one! Lots of important info plus we will map out our targeted areas for the Monroe Street Fair and Hash Bash.) Clarion Hotel, Ann Arbor

To Volunteer you may call the office at 313-567-4724 or just arrive early at the venue and look for our table and banners.

Thank you for all that you do!
