PH calibration question.

My PH meter came with 3 packets for calibration. It says to mix it into DI water which I can get locally.

After I mix it into 3 containers will the PH hold if I store the solution in a sealed for calibration later?

Thanks :D

I left my calibration solution out in a solo cup and it would stay accurate for a week at least. The packs are pretty cheap though so I just bought a bunch and mix fresh whenever I need to calibrate.

I didn't know I could get the packs. There wasn't anything in the instructions of my PH meter on where I could get them from.

Thanks :D

I have a Bluelab meter but when I saw this Apera pH calibration storage solution container I got it and I absolutely love it. It makes it so convenient to calibrate and store the solution!

I usually toss those packs as i find ready to use ph calibration solution easy and straightforward.

My inkbird ph pens calibrate at 6.86 ( in its calibration mode ) a non issue to hit actual 7.0 as label - pen calibrated- all done.

They come in smaller bottles also.

I bought an Apera ph and ec pen a month ago and it came with a nice calibration and storage solution set, all in a little tray. I love the new ph pen, way quicker readings.

I've been looking at that Apera kit but I can't justify buying it until my Bluelab dies and so far it's still going strong LOL!! I got it in 2015 and haven't been particularly careful either

I saw a significant change in something like 2-4 weeks. The liquid stuff is good for at least a couple years.

so there is actually a shelf life on the solution and it will drift with time. the dry powder would have a very long shelf life but once you mix it, a clock starts from a technical standpoint. A clean DI “dip&shake” between moving the probe from 4 to 7 will help keep the standards as close as possible. a lab tech will only use a solution once for instance but a home grower is not following EPA protocol so meh…but it does go. :peace:

Good to know. Oh I know about the EPA strict standards. I had to follow them for 20+ years. I worked at a water bottling business until I retired. I did the repairs on the equipment. But I didn't calibrate the meters. The Boss did.

The nice thing is. I can stop by and get all the water I need, But I'll probably build my own RO machine from scratch. :)

Does this fit the head of a standard bluelabs pH meter 'pen'? If so, I may have to spring for this. I hate using little cups for calibration, then throwing out the fluid I've used.

My blue lab pen is now 5 years old, I just ordered an apera ph60 for no good reason.....Your pen still going good for 9 years? Maybe ill refuse delivery and keep on using my bluelab...

Ive never cleaned it either, and I pour the calibration solution back in the bottles to re-use my calibration solution is also 5 years old....I also only calibrated to ph 7 solution never 4...lol

Must work good cause I still pump out clones, I use it to set my water to 5.7 for my cloner

pH solution is changed over time by absorbing CO2, I dump anything over a year old.

After opening, a bottle of 4 or 7 buffer solution should last approximately 3 to 6 months and a bottle of pH 10 buffer should last approximately one month.

pH 10 buffer is highly susceptible to CO2 absorption which changes the pH value of the buffer over time. Refrigerating the buffer can slow this process of degradation
