maybe the fish poop has micro nutes in it? I honestly have no idea. Good luck finding the answer to all your questions mannnn

its called aquaponics. They have a setup at my local hydro shop. The plants and the fish have a symbiotic relationship, where the fish waste feeds the plants and in return the plants filter the fish water. The plants in that setup are always healthy, so it must work to some degree. But for more info just google aquaponics

You could definitely do it with soil, but it seems like it would be easier with a hydro setup. Otherwise you'd have to be carting water in from wherever the fish are. In true aquaponics, they put a pump in the fish tank and thats the reservoir. It's definitely a viable growing technique, and the only reason I wouldn't give it a shot is I just don't feel like taking care of fish as well the plants. :) But your buddy knew had the right idea, its a great way to grow organically.

I water out of my aquarium as well.
I would suspect trace nutrients & micro bugs to be the reason they seem to like it so much, but I've not had the water tested to find out percentages.

There's a lot of micro-nutrients in the water available for the plant.

Outdoor grower by me said he grew a couple plants once by putting them in an old log some wood peckers made holes in then floated it just off shore of a small pond. He said the roots found their way through the old log and down into the water.

Something like natural hydroponics, don't know how much truth to that story there is but it sounds like it would work.:bigjoint:

Me too! A few more inches to go and I'll be switching to 12/12.

Next grow round I think I'm ordering Super Lemon Haze and Urban Poison.:weed:

Ive been using freshwater to water my plants out of my 55g planted tank for months and it seems to work well. You have to be careful though. Since my aquarium is planted, I use ferts for it. I cant use the water out of it on days that I fertilize.
