Okay guys, is autoflower as good as photos in quality. I just saw a few journals that have me thinking that might be cool to try.

Yeah these days they are as strong as photo plants, They are great for people who have to be stealthy in there endeavors . But they are a gimmick to most serious growers, You can't clone them and you have to have the lights on at least 18/6 for the whole duration of the grow . When I grew mine I had them on a 20/4 cycle and they did fine but the juice adds up quick for little reward. I pulled 200 ish grams out of my last/only grow from 4 plants and was happy, the quality was there but then the electricity and having to order more seeds turned me against them. I now run SOG with photo period plants and am more then happy. Conclusion is this: If you're just starting to dabble your toes into growing , you need to stay small and concealed or if it is just a one time thing then yeah by all means get a few. If you're thinking about growing for reals and wanting to seriously supply yourself or your pockets a little bit . Go photo period. You will save money on just about everything down the line

You don't need to go 18/6. I read a very interesting post on another forum. Someone test autos in every type of light schedule. His results found that to achieve better results autos should be on a 12/12 schedule. He claims the reason on why this is better is he thinks autos are time restricted light based plants. The more light, the less yield.
Take them slow and the growth takes longer and produces more yield. Double in fact.
I can't say for sure but he went into details and I have no doubts about his findings

To each there own , But I would strongly disagree with this statement especially the 12/12 part , and that there is no link provided for the results .

This was my first and last time with auto's. These are pics from during the whole grow , not in any particular order as they are from the beginning of 2014. They can produce good numbers with quality smoke, But They are just not for me

Ive grown autos a few times and the smoke was nice. Didnt see an overall drop in quality over regular photo plants. I liked the ease of growing autos. Not having to switch and wait for flowering to slowly initiate. I just run autos on 20/4 from seed to harvest, with regular feed, water, feed, schedule. Easy as pie.

I think a couple of the other posters were right on target. What and how you grow depends on the individual. I love autos because they are easy and usually fast. The smoke will get you were you wanna be. I'm not really a conoseur of taste and smell. I just wanna med. with an auto you don't have to worry about light schedule. And they are generally hardy and hard to screw them up. And I like fast. But, you can run a photo 12/12 from seed and get fast. And they are hardy as well. Yield? Prolly about the same. Commercial, that's a whole different ball game. I'm more of just a hobby grower.

This year I grew an auto outdoors starting in late June. It's about ready but the yield is low considering you use the same soil space as you would a large plant. So it was fun but I'll stick to photo period plants next year for my outdoor experiments. I do see why a stealth grower would like them though.

IMO auto's have their place and that place is outdoors. Done early before everyone and their dog is out looking. Done before the heavy rains. And pretty good yields for a 12 week plant (typically a few weeks longer than advertised). I'm no expert in quality though as I've done a total of three runs. The one running now seems pretty good but came down early due to bud rot (wtf, in August the warmest month and bud rot).

grew some autos and was happy with the smoke but never growing that stuff again -
pros -
easy to grow
quick finish
decent smoke
cons -
if u find a keeper you cant clone it.
most good strains are only available in photo.
any grower error and your yield is affected dramatically.
to each his own i just prefer photos, have a OG 18 that ive kept alive for 2 years just taking cuts before flowering them and will never have to buy OG 18 seeds again
