Photoperiod variance

Hi all, quick question. I know a varying photoperiod has numerous negative impacts. I don't have a timer yet and my plants are on a 21/3 photo period. I have 2 short Ryder seedlings (2 weeks old) and they are a little on the short side. Anyway my photoperiod has been varying by 10 minutes either way. Is that enough to induce negative effects? Answers appreciated. I am growing in a large pc tower case with a dual spectrum 125 watt cfl. Also what sort of time schedule should I impliment for Nutes. I have bio bizz grow and bloom.

no it shouldn't have any effect at that stage and honestly don't think it would on flower at least not 10-20 minutes.
With no timer why not just leave it on 24/0 until you get one? It won't hurt your girls.

10 minute variance isn't a big deal. In nature, the plants deal with lots of weather variations, some days are sunnier then others, the sun may rise at a certain time but that doesn't mean it's visible.

Also, you're growing auto's, so if you're really worried about it you could just keep 'em lit up 24/7 no problem.

As for nute schedule, I don't know biobizz, but the general rule with any nutes is to start with 1/4 strength (of what the label says) and slowly work your way up, 1/2, 3/4, full, etc.

I've read numerous times autos don't need much food, so at the first signs of nute burn scale back. I'm guessing you probably shouldn't go higher then 1/2 strength.

Nah, that's not enough to do anything harmful. Just keep it close, and they'll be just fine.

Thanks buds. I am gonna buy a timer I was just worried about the variations. I dontfeel comfortable with the 24/0 as I have a compultion to allow my cfl to cool. Piece of mind. Haha. Do u think increasing to a 24/0 at this stage will have a negative effect? I rescued the two girls of my pal. He was using an incandescent bulb to grow. I know it's laughable. Also humidity is off the scale. Below 20% at times. Will this be detrimenal? I can only guess age. Possibly 4 weeks from germing.

^I'm not a 24/0 guy either, mainly because i believe that the plants benefit from the resting period of darkness. Also, I have yet to see anybody post any sort of comparison proving that 24/0 provides faster growth over 18/6. IMO, 24/0 isn't worth the extra cost of electricity, and if the cost of electricity isn't a concern, it would be logical to add more wattage, rather than leave the lights on continuously.

As for the low humidity....I have run at around 30% without problems, but never went any lower than that. I don't think it would cause any major problems, as long as the roots had steady access to moisture. You could also increase the humidity by placing containers of water around the room, which I've seen a few growers do. You should be able to get up over 30%, maybe higher, which would be fine. And for bloom, they like lower humidity, and 20% isn't much lower than the ideal, which i believe to be around 25%.

Thanks jawbrodt. Very helpfull. I am gonna increase to 22/2 to improve growth. I feel, with a basic knowledge of plant growth, I will utilise the rate of photosynthesis. Does anyone have any experience with short Ryder. I am not sure what to expect. Will I need to transplant soon? I would estimate the volume of my pots as being 500ml. A "low Ryder" style plant should be able to grow with a reasonably small pot. Any suggestions? This is my first grow.

I've read numerous times that autos require deceptively larger root mass then they appear. Transplanting I think is a good idea, though best done once. I suspect you'll need 4L+, maybe even as much as 8-10.

Thanks vh13. I may inadvertantly stunt my plant due to limited grow space. (pc grow box due to circumstance). It as large server case (roughly 65/70cm high, 45cm wide, 20cm deep). Lst will be my best bet. A trip to the garden centre for a viable pot is my next move. I will see what I can get. When do I transplant? When I can see roots through the existing pot? If I knew how to upload pics I would. I am currently using a mobile ( iPhone ). Any help appreciated.

Transplant as soon as is reasonably possible, or once you have the right container. Find something that takes up as much floor space as possible but not too much height in your PC case. Be creative, plastic food storage containers may give you the most root space.

LST is a very good idea. I swear by it.
