the pot size would be good,it might be something has simple has them been pot bound,check the bottom of the pots

Well of course it doesn't help, lol. If you could tell from your pic what was wrong with his plant, you would have said "Its a _____ problem" not "Here, heres a pic, guess!" His pic don't match up well enough to select any of those options....
