Picking a Male

I have bred several strains of C99 and really like it to no end. But I would like to really open the whole strain up to see those hidden gems (genes). I have 2 males, one is a Mosca the other an unknown clone from a friend that wanted to cross 99 with an OG in hopes of knocking down the odor. Male 1 (clone) is sticky to no end with lots of trichs. Northern Lights is showing its genes in this one. Only problem is that it is a slow grower. Male 2 (Mosca) has better growth and more resembles the female clones from both Mosca and Female seeds Grapefruit in both odor and growth pattern.... but not near the sticky, hairy, triched out male #1. Any experienced breeding advice appreciated. (FYI> I don't buy fem seeds often but Female seeds Grapefruit is a must, it is more C99 than their C99.)

Use Male #1 for your breeding project.
The slower flowering males are usually the ones that pass along the medicinal properties that your looking for.
Also, if he's got trichs on him, this is a very desirable trait to pass along, as it will increase the overall resin production of the offspring.
Good luck.

If you breed the male to a feminized plant you will get a high% female to male seed. Agree with using the resinous male over the the taller one.

I've got a slow flowering male. All the females showed first by a good 5-6 days. His structure is just like his sister's. I'm planning on f2s but he has a very skunky weed odor and is resinous. Maybe plans for a back cross but I'm interested in the old genetics as well as the new.
From DJ Short, you don't want a preflowering male and one that auto flowers ( Not rudalis, but males flowering very early and grow fast, more hemp trait) he also speaks about stem hollow nice)

I agree, slower more resinous male. A slow C99 male should still be fast compared to a lot of other strains. Also, a fast female should off-set a bit of his slower vigor. And last reason why, you know exactly where it came from, rather than an unknown origin clone. That being said, if the other more resembles the C99 you're looking for (you mentioned odor and growth pattern) he would be the clear choice. There really is no wrong choice, just the direction you want to go with your breeding.

From what I remember the amount of days into flower the male shows his pollen release, the later males to release pollen were thought to be more potent. I wouldn't mind seeing more research into this theroy. Not that I don't believe it could be true. I would probably do the same.

You might want to try both because you never know if one would line up better with the other. Just mark the branches and selectivly polinate 2 different branches.
Hope that helps.
