Pickle Bucket DWC?

Hey I was just wondering if it would be ok to use old pickle buckets for a dwc? I have searched on here but haven't found any info on DWC pickle buckets being used. Saw a lot on them being used for soil. Just wondering if I could save a couple bucks but not if it'll cost me in the long run.

I don't know. Are the pickle buckets new, used? You did say "old" though din't ya. I'd be worried if the brine soaked into the barrel. could raise hell.

I like the igloos. easy to fill and drain, clean out.

They are new pickle buckets... well used once then I have been givin them. They still do smell like pickles (heard this is very hard to get out). Besides light issue (going to cover in duct tape) you think ill be good to go?

Pickle buckets are fine for any type of growing after thoroughly washed. They contain no chemicals which may be harmful to plants with long-term exposure to liquid or light. I use them for my soil, but did quite a bit of research on them first.

I haven't heard "pickle bucket" since I worked at Burger King back in the 80's. It is just a 5 gallon bucket isn't it ??

Yup, just differently treated plastic than a mortar bucket for instance (from what I understand). Not sure if they are heat treated or what, but being a food container they have to adhere to more stringent testing to ensure that chemicals will not be released under feasible circumstances.

Just to be on the safe side you could fill with water and leave it a few days, see what the PH does.
Good points... yeah just a standard 5 gal bucket. Just making sure nothing is going to leech out of the bucket from the pickle brine that would be harmful. Ill check the ph and report back. Yeah these are thrown away quite often at store if anyone is tryin to do a grow and save a few bucks.
