[PICS] Can't diagnose what's wrong! Yellowish leaves

Hey all!

I'm having an issue with one of my plants and I can't figure out what's wrong.

It's about 6 weeks old into vegging and all of the leaves are yellowish and the tips are red. It was pH locked for about a week until I switched from drops to a pH pen and I've been keeping the water pH at 6.5.

I switch between dechlorinated tap and distilled water for feeding. I can't figure out if it's an N deficiency or phosphorus or something else entirely. I have no pests also.

If this were my plant and IMHO...I would start to search with 'chlorosis' as my search term...I would also search 'zinc toxicity'

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

Soaking up all that information and sifting through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.

Its not an N deficiency, the bottom would be way worse by the time the top got like that!
It could be a zinc issue.
What is your medium?

distilled water is void of ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, EVERYTHING

give em some tap water, with a pinch of epsom salts

and how were you de-chloronating?

Hey $bkbbudz$, thanks for the quick reply and friendly welcome! I've been lurking on the site for years but haven't made a post yet.

I bought several books and have been going through the treasure trove of information that RIU is and it's definitely been helping me out. I have three other plants and they don't exhibit this problem and I haven't been doing anything different with it.

I am using half FFOF and Espoma Organic Potting Soil with a bit of Bio-tone Starter Plus!

I started out only using tap water but read that it would eventually lead to a build-up of too many salts and minerals so I started using distilled water too.

To answer your question, I have a whole house water filtration system from Aquasana that supposedly removes 99% of chlorine.

Different strains and phenos may react to grow conditions differently. In my current grow...I made a darn right stooped error and over fed the shit out of my gurlz. One was very ill and still shows damage. The other continued to grow fine and dandy.

Perhaps this plant is still having a problem related to the earlier ph issue.....

A lot of people said that FFOF ran 'hot' so I tried cutting it with espoma potting soil. I added the Bio-Tone starter plus because of the feather/bone meal and mycorrhizae.

Edit: perhaps this wasn't needed. Could it be possible it's also contributing to this?

yeppers ! I add 1/4 cup of Bio-Tone to peat and it feeds my plants in veg for 4 to 5 weeks

you put em in hot soil then took away their number 1 source of Calcium (water)

Cheers, I asked so I could assess the correct ph.

Your Ph is good for soil. However if its zinc deficiency lowering it to 6.2 could help.
Would also be worth switching back to tap water as RM3 said.

Have a search for zinc deficiency on here and google and see what YOU think, you have the best view of your plants.

If I were using FFOF or FFHF (which is my soil) I would not add additional soils...I would add inert perlite, dolomite lime and vermiculite.

Oops I forgot to mention that I also added about 1/4 of coarse perlite to the mix! So it's not exactly 50/50.

40% FFOF
40% Espoma Organic
20% Perlite

I went to my local hydroponics store and they suggested I get Sensi Cal Mag Xtra but it's 4-0-0. I am feeding with 3tsp of FF Big Bloom every other watering too. I don't want to give my plants too much N especially since I think need to switch to flowering today. Will I be in danger of causing a nitrogen toxicity using it?

FF soils and synthetic nutes are notorious for needing additional Ca and Mg...just because... I start at 1/2 strength when feeding.

This. Distilled will actually rob nutrients from your plants.


What are you growing in?

You need to run a better soil. For nutrients, fox farm is good. You need all the nutrients. All macros and micros.

Go to a well rounded fert that has everything the whole grow. You will need N in flower. The stretch will burn through it.

Yih have been feeding nothing but N and the plant is hungry. You either need to get the other two parts to fox farm or go to a all in one like dynagro.

Feed them things.
