[Pics] First Time Grow: Thoughts/Advice?

Recent lurker >> Member >> First time poster. Hey!

This is also my first grow. I'm poppin my cherry boys! I can't really tell yet (mainly since I have nothing to base it on) but it looks like my little plant is doing well. Started in mid-May. The plant was kept outdoors day and night throughout the summer. Very strong direct sunlight, thanks to the hot temperatures. 5 days ago, I started the 12/12 cycle.

Questions:

1. Was it premature to start 12/12 based on the size of the plant, or am I ok?

2. I'm not really doing anything as far as nutrients are concerned outside of a weekly dosage of Miraclegrow. Horrible move? Is there something I can pick up at Target / Walmart / Home Depot that would help during the beginning of (and throughout) 12/12?

3. Some of the lower leaves at the base are turning a greenish yellow. You can't really tell from the pics. I read that this can be a result of over-watering, but I don't think that's the case here, although it could be, right? What do I know? Thoughts?

4. Pardon my newbness: Is my plant going to be either male OR female? Or will various nodes have balls or hairs, and it's my job to kill the balls? (I feel stupid.)

5. Any other thoughts / suggestions after looking at the pics?

Thanks!

I started a second thread relating to an issue regarding yellow leaves at the bottom of my plant. The new thread is located here, in the 'Problems' forum. Feel free to take a look.

They are probably showing sex by now. Is there any way you can take pics of the upper internodes? We could help you sort out the males, for ya. To answer you question,....the plant will either be full male or full female(unless it's a hermie), so you won't have to pick off any balls. You just chop the males when you identify them, and keep the females. It's not likely that you have any hermies in there, unless you have really stressed them in some way?(a few big interruptions of the light period, is one example) In that case, a female plant will produce pollen sacs(balls) and should be chopped, as well, when identified, or you risk pollinating your full females, and ruining the smoke. Not fun. :)

I'll get some more pics and upload them. Thanks for the response.

greenish yellow is from a nitrogen deficiency you can give it some veg food or just pull um off you don't want any dead foliage

Or, it could simply be old age, combined with low light levels reaching the lowest leaves. That's normal, as the upper growth blocks the light from reaching the very lowest leaves on the plant.

Damn, maybe it's a little early yet, 'cause I don't see any signs of preflowers. Mine usually show by week 5, from seed. Could be the strain, too. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer. Sorry man, wish I could've got 'em sorted for ya. :)
