I had a Lab/Pitt mix that would do that too.
What I can't figure out is how you convince a dog to catch a lobster with his/her mouth.
Those damn things are called "Spiny" lobster for a reason.

They look to be Pomacea canaliculata or a close variant.

but what's the purpose of keeping them? what? they're fun to watch traverse a tank at a glacial pace?

Some specie do help with tank clean up, many however will decimate live plants.
FYI - some are pretty nimble - not Ferrari nimble, more like Gremlin quick.
