Pinching (Thread II)

I've grown before and never used pinching or pruning (just let the plant grow naturally). I've started growing again and several friends gave suggestions for pinching. Can anyone help me to decide when to pinch?

Method 1.

Pinching the main growth shoot after the first set of leaves.

Method 2.

Pinching the main growth shoot after the third set of leaves.

I do want to keep the plants low to the ground, but won't pinching the plant after the first set of leaves be unhealthy for the plant?

I think pinching at the very first set of leaves if a bad idea, unless you want plants 1/2-1 ft tall. My suggestion is if you want to keep it low to the ground, then simply tie it down- Without breaking the stalk - I guarantee you will be more pleased with your plants- as your yield will be higher.
