Looking good in there man!
Thanks Duck. I get a little quackers when my temps are off. See what I did there? :P

Dlftmyers made me do it...:)
I suspected as much. It has his name written all over it. I'm going to miss Walt, man. "Our science is tight."

Decided to take a crack at making my own batch of Colloidal Silver. It's a fairly simple process, in all actuality, and now, I can start creating my own F1 feminized seeds.

View attachment 2870740 View attachment 2870739 7955269628733337.jpg

Here's a short how to:
Find an old mobile phone charger, they have an output of around 5v DC which is perfect.
Snip off the plug that fits into the phone.
Strip the wires.
Attach 2 small alligator clips - the crimp-on style need no soldering and cost a few cents from and electronics shop (Radio Shack)
Attach small pieces of silver to the clips. (99.999% pure - jewelers wire, pure silver coins or ingots)
Pour Demineralized Water (cleaning products section of supermarket) into a glass - I used about 240ml.
Tape clips to inside of glass so that the silver (and NOT the clips) are immersed in the water.
Turn on charger and leave in darkness for 24 hours (silver reacts with light).

Still learning about feminized seeds and how to get the best results, but I'll try my best to give a short simple explanation. Basically, the silver interrupts the uptake of certain minerals that help determine the sex of the plant. So, you take a female plant, and spray one, or a few of her branches. This will cause male flowers to form. You remove the male branch, let it develop in a separate area, collect the pollen from it's pollen sacs, and pollinate either the same female from which you applied the silver, which is called selfing, or pollinate another strain completely. The latter process creates an F1 hybrid.

I have a few strains I would like to cross. One in particular will be my own version of Strawberry Diesel (Strawberry Cough x Sour Diesel). It will be a true hybrid. It's not a new cross, however. There are already some great versions of it out there. But, I need something I can smoke before work that doesn't make me tired out by 11am. Also, I'm extremely curious to see how much of a challenge it is to develop a stable cross of two different, true breeding types.

Another cross I'm thinking of attempting is my own version of Sour Grape (Gran Daddy Purps x Sour Diesel). Sour Grape is the cross of one of the best nighttime Indicas, GDP, with one of the most widely smoked Sativa strains of all time, Sour Diesel. This will be perfect for my anxiety.

A great thread that inspired me to try my hand: Stew's Breeding Project 2013

I'm JUST starting to learn about cloning/breeding. I don't think I'll practice it for a while, but I have a question for you. If you can self-polinate a female this way, why don't growers do it all the time on strains that are currently clone-only? Like I'm really interested in God's Gift, which is clone-only. And the idea of trying to keep a mother alive is daunting to me. But why not do as you detail, self-polinate and then grow from seed?

Thanks, krypt. Great question. Clone only strains are definately tougher to lay hands on. But, it's still possible. A lot of growers/breeders out there will actually do as you described, and happen upon a cut of something rare, then "self it" to add to their seedstock. "Selfing a plant" (pollinating a plant with it's own pollen) is essentially cloning a plant in that it will take on all of the mother's traits. It will not be identical in every way, however, but extremely similar. Some growers are very protective of their strains. Especially after having worked on them for years, and sometimes decades to get them stable, and delicious. Some, like me, want to get any work they do out there. Share what they've done.

I can't post any links to any specific breeders, as that's against the rules here at RIU. No trading, buying, selling, or advertising. But, if you're curious about breeders that carry clone-only seeds, and cuts. Feel free to PM me.

A single, legit commercial selfed seed, or clone of a top-shelf, clone-only strain like Girl Scout Cookies or Cherry Pie can sell for as much as $140. But ultra-elite cuts shared in the top ranks of marijuana breeders and clone developers can sell for thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars each!

Why so expensive? Unlike cannabis seeds, every clone from a premium marijuana plant is guaranteed to be a female cut from a unique motherplant. If the clone seller is ethical and professional, and if you’re a professional grower, you’re guaranteed that your clone will grow, smell and stone you just like the seller says. And it will of course be a female marijuana plant.

I'm really interested in God's Gift, which is clone-only.

I've read about God's Gift. Been dying to pick up a cut myself. It's GDP x OG Kush if I remember correctly. Great for pain relief. I have yet to find anyone with seeds or a cut. It would be a fucking awesome addition to anyone's collection. Especially if you the blue pheno. And for those like me, who have severely debilitating back and neck issues, it's said to alleviate some if not all inflammation, and sharp pain. A good trick to keeping a mother is to bonzai the shit out of her, and take a fresh cut off her lower branches, let her develop for at least 2 months, or rooting becomes an issue. Then just rinse and repeat.

Here's a look at some killer GG with the elusive blue pheno that I was looking at the other day:

I've been doing research on that silver stuff. Have a green crack mom that I threw outside. I have stressed the shit out of her. Let her dry up then doused with water way over ripe and nothing, Interrupted light cycle. Can't get those nanners to show up. The silver might work though.

Lol, I've done everything possible to stress her out. Maybe I'll try emotional stress say she looks fat and her sisters are doing better, hahaha.

Selfing a plant will not produce stable offspring unless it's from an already true breeding strain. The results are like what you would get crossing the clone with an extremely similar sibling. A few back crosses should get a reasonable approximation of the original clone in seed form but it will never be identical and in the case of truly exceptional parents you may have very good children on average but still need to pop a fairly large number of beans to get a plant as good as the original.

Fuck with her light schedule. Try and get your temps higher in the day, and lower at night. Or even up and down all day for a few days. Just keep her ventilation cranked up, and keep fluctuations between 55-85F and you won't kill her. If all else fails, you can crank some metal in the tent, periodically walk in and shake the shit out of her, then tell her she's a pathetic excuse for a plant, and that you've been cheating on her with her relatives.

Thanks, Duck. That's worded better than my post. They will not be identical, but similar. I also forgot to mention BX'ing to gain stability. This is why clone only's are so expensive and rare. It takes work to produce a great strain.

Use silver, it actually works on a biochemical level. Silver thiosulfate works faster than colloidal silver or silver nitrate but pretty much any form of silver will work. Cannabis is pretty amazing at absorbing metals. I've wondered if adding the silver to the water would work better than a foliar spray. Next time I reverse a plant maybe I'll try watering one, spraying one and doing a combo of both to a third.

They can be quite different as they're effectively F2 seeds when made from F1 plants.
This is a picture of my Blue Dream clone

This is a video of someone's Blue Dream S1 from HSO. Pretty dissimilar looking.

I will PM you about that. I'm THAT interested in God's Gift. I had some in Cali not long ago with a friend who has a card for her hepatitis C and fibromyalgia. It's a nice body stone that's TOTALLY relaxing and anti-anxiety and pain killing. With some good laughs. Super nice, and would be a regular go-to strain for me if I can get it in seed. I grow only once a year and don't have facility to keep a mother plant alive the rest of the time. Seeds have to be the way for me to go right now.

Just beautiful, man. Look at how dense and frosty those buds are. I just ordered some HSO gear. They have some great strains. I appreciate you clearing that up btw. I went back and edited my previous post so no one get's confused during their read through. I'm still learning, and obviously shouldn't be giving out too much advice yet. Pinworm you noober!

By the way guys, go check out MrE's breeding journal. Some great info there: MrE's Breeding Journal

That's the clone not HSO. That said the S1s HSO has produce good plants. The clone is a dream to grow, the smoke is great and I find I provides tremendous medical benefits to me. The density of her buds is unbelievable, I'm only using a 400W and her buds look like they're grown under a 1000W.
Thanks for the plug. Hopefully things settle down and I can get my grow going again. I fucking miss my girls more than I can say.

All my Blue Dream is HSO. but it looks just like the clone only strain.(i've seen pictures of a friends out in cali, his look just like mine do throughout the grow. similar smell to. Blueberry Muffins..

Yours is extremely similar to my girl Stew.
I'm so happy I got the pheno I did. I know HSO has a few for the S1.... I was lucky. lol.

Makes my life easier when the plant will just do what I want it to instead of me bending to it's needs. lol

One of if not the easiest plant I have ever worked with.

The things we do for our ladies, man. You should post some shots of your BD momma sometime if you have the inclination, and time, man. Last time I saw her, she was really starting to take off.
