thats true even obesity can cause impairment but its still a contraindication for surgery

doctors may choose not to do surgery in fear of bad outcome (hard time weaning off vent, or wounds not recovering well do to poor circulation).
Okay but what that has to do with her concern over CO2 is baffling to me. Been in medicine since 1978. 1976 if you count driving ambulances. Unless they are doing a quantitative arterial blood gas analysis or some super thorough exam to reveal why she might have a slightly elevated CO2 at that moment all this worry is silly and baseless. No smokers do NOT run 3 to 1 CO2:O2. That is impossible. If there is a respiratory or metabolic cause for a high CO2 it is generally offset by a shift in bicarb unless it is uncompensated like in a lunger. So somebody explain to me in real terms just what this story is about smoking, CO2 and employment tests? This sounds like a box of cat cookies.
as for as the 3/1 molecule I'm not sure about that I'm not the one that posted that bit of info. I do know the smoking raises the co2 in your blood meaning you don't have the oxygen in your blood you should have. Don't know what you mean about employment tests???? If you don't have enough oxygen in your blood it makes it harder to wean you off a vent and also hinders the ability of your body to heal. If a doctor feels you will heal poorly they may not decide to do surgery (OP is having weight loss surgery and if he/she smokes doctor will not perform surgery). If they run the blood test and it shows elevated co2 regardless of whether its from smoking, lung disease, obesity, or any other cause they may decide not to perform surgery believing the risks outweigh the benefits
