Plant growing too tall!

Is there any way to keep my plant from growing taller? I started flowering last week and since then it has doubled in size. I've heard that if you remove about 50% of the fan leafs that it will start to focus more on the buds than on other growth. Is this true? This sucker is already three feed tall and I have about six and a half weeks of flowering left.

It's never a good idea to remove fan leaves, they are the factories of the plant, as said, bend them over to reduce height. How long did you veg ?, next time shorten you veg time to reduce height.

So, if it stretches for about two weeks and I'm about a week and a half into flowering, it should stop stretching in a few days to a week? I have about three feet more grow space above it.

I vegged for three weeks. This is my first hydro grow and everything has been going well. I just didn't expect that the growth in hydro would be that much faster! In soil three weeks was perfect. This one was a little bigger at two and a half weeks so I cropped it. IT HEALED FAST and doubled in size in the two weeks since then.

It depends so much on the strain and pheno. Sativa-habit plants have much more stretching liability and can take very long to finish. cn

I don't know the strain. What I do know is that I bought a bag of seeds from a website that was a mix of indoor strains that all finish between eight to ten weeks.

I have found that the best way to limit stretch is to provide blue (actinic, even) light while flowering. What is your lighting? cn

Right now it is a 250 Watt HPS over the one plant. I've been growing one to two plants every four months and that's enough for me until my next harvest. I'm just doing the one this time. I'm surprised that out of this bag of seeds I've bought I've not grown one male.

bend the top of the plant down without snapping it.. then in the middle of the stem another branch/top will grow from there.
Don't cut of the fan leaves, as you'll need them futher down in the flowering stage.

It might not be worth your expense/hassle, but supplementing with, say, an aquarium T5 running 12000K lamps will benefit your grow (yield, potency) and also limit the stretch. but you'll get results without. cn
