Plant Height, Planting Date

Hello,

I'm about to plant some Afghani Gold seeds from Toronto420 Seed Bank and I was just wondering what time I should plant them If I want the final product to be about 2-3 feet tall? Should I plant beginning of June or more like July?

Btw I live in Southern Ontario (Toronto) and Afghani Gold is a Indica/Sativa Blend meant for the Outdoors of Northern Ontario. I think it is (A Local Afghani Indica x Columbian Gold)

Unfortunately the site does not have any info on the average height of the plant

Thanks!
I'm new to planting outdoors so any help will be appreciated!

Are these the ones going in your moms garden? If you're worried about height being an issue you can always keep trying them down

Yes they are, Yes I'm probably going to FIM them to keep them wider that taller and probably going to lst them. I'm not to worried because our backyard has tall fences with trees and vines around them. I just don't want 6 foot plants :s

But I;m guessing the afghan traits will keep it fairly low to the ground since afghans are fairly short and stalky. Just hope its more indica than Sativa. I'll ask 2moro before I buy though.

Any input on when I should plant i order to get a smaller plant (ie less veg). Is it safe to plant later in the season (ie july)?

I planted my seedlings outside when they were about 2-3 inches off the ground and they really havent grown much since, its been about 2 1/2 weeks, now i live in northern ontario (sudbury area) and its just starting to get hot outside and only my leaves have been growing(very slowly) so i think if u plant em start of june they shouldnt get big at all maybe 3 feet if u top em

Nah I'm not growing enough to be worried about smell, also one of my neighbors house is vacant, I just don't want it to stick out to much (since its with tomatos etc) to be an eye sore to guests

If you want to minimize size, try planting your seeds in one gallon pots on June 15th. Most strains begin flowering about August 1st.

Transplant the plants into the ground or larger pots in the last week of July, or when you first see flowers. Be GENTLE when transplanting.

With a bit of LST, it should be no problem keeping them under three feet.

This should allow you to harvest as early as October 1st.

Thanks so much for the step by step, I'm pretty sure I'll follow this idea, I'm also going to ask the seed vendor the average size 2moro and then take the nessessary steps then.

Also, Is it ok if I start vegging this week in a 1 gallon pot? or will that be to much for a 1 gallon pot if it vegs an extra 20 days?

Well I got my seeds, 5 Afghani Golds, Very nice people over at Toronto420 seed bank. They told me that outside with no restrictions they can grow up to 5 feet. Bit to big for me so I'm going to hold onto these seeds till first week of June or so and then Germinate. I'll germinate (paper towel method) and then transfer them to beer cups to grow a fairly good root structure. Then June 15th or later June I'll transfer to 1 gallon pots and get them climatised to the outdoors. I'll begin LSTing also. When they are big enough I'll either transplant them again into a bigger container or the ground (havent decided yet) around the last week of july or so so they are ready to begin flowering in august.

Does this sound like a good plan in order to keep the plants height to around feet or so?

Do you think a month and a half in a 1 liter container will rootbound it? I was it to be in the smallest container possible so it doesn't grow over 3 feet but I also don't want it dying from root bound!

Also I'm refrigerating my seeds until the 15th in a envelope in a tupperware. is this a good way to keep seeds good?

Refrigerating seeds is fine.

The plant will fill the pot with roots, but if you transplant them at the end of July, they should be fine.

Feed and water regularly.

I'm kind of sticking my neck out with this.

The results I'm describing are based on how things go in my garden.

I'd guess that with your longer summer days, your plants might get larger than I expect.

Do a lot of reading on LST.

Best of luck!

Yes I have been researching LSTing for a while now. Seems there are two types, circular (around the container) LST or just a one time bend of the main stem LST. Not sure which one to preform, LSTing them one time seems much less demanding but I imagine circular LSTing keeps the height down. But not sure how LSTing cicularly in a 1 gallon container will preform until transplant.

I'll post one pic of a plant I'm LSTing.

The first bend is done. The next step is to bend the side branches 90 degrees away from the main stem.

Spread the plant as wide as possible without burying branches underneath each other.

At this point, I'll often selectively remove branches to avoid this.

Ultimately I'm after a canopy covering as much area as possible, while staying below the desired height.
