Plant is short and wide, little growth.

Almost 5 weeks now. Bag seed. Germinated in 24 hours. Solo cup for one week under a 13w full spectrum LED light and a timer running 18/6. Transplanted after week one to 8"dia pot. Soil: Miracle Gro Organic w/ Perlite 50/50 mix. Researched some. Figured LED lamp i had gotten wasnt 225Watt but 13Watt (pathetic) Ripped off on the LED light. Went and bought two 23W 100 watt equivalent CFL Daylight bulbs (5500k) with metal reflectors 3 days ago so hoping to see a major growth spurt. Plan on adding a fan and 2 more cfls to increase growth. Yeah fans very importatnt need to invest in that. Do you think this plant has a shot to live? (PS watered every 3 days or when crusty soil/ not moist finger testing) Dont have a PH meter, but humidity meter and thermometer. I heard MG burns plants but mine is doing fine. Water is filtered through fridge left out 24 hours before use so no chlorine. Notice the slope of the plant, and it has little leaves coming out (lots) seems to be getting wider and longer hopefully these CFLs will fix my previous problem (Using a weak LED that was only 13w)photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpg

5 weeks that plant is hardly growing. poor thing. The brown stem makes me think you are overwatering/
Serious? I always water every 3 days with about one solo cup. I read that you need to water until the water seeps out of drainage holes, but I have never watered it that much. However one thing I take into consideration is that I just recently (3 days ago) bought some CFls that will actually do something to promote its growth. So it can be any of the two reasons if not mistaken.

Even at 3 days with such a low light wattage that may have not been sufficient time before watering, you shouldn't limit yourself to a schedule rather than checking if the soil is dry. People tend to say 3-4 days but then again they are using much better bulbs than a 13 watter which I have never tried myself. I personally use much more than 66 watts of CFL's also though I think that might work ?? not too sure, I still use more than that and I believe 6500k is ideal for veg growth so you may want to look into that rather than 5500k.
Your plants look over watered to me but could also be a lot of different things.

What is your PH/PPM etc..
I would guess from what I have seen it is either lack of good light/over watering but hey I am sure there are people much more experienced than myself who could shed more insight than me.

You gotta get that baby some more light! From what I've read, the MG is okay, but the nutes are released when you water, so be careful. Definitely doesn't seem to be a strong genetic line even with such a little amount of light... I would think it would still be a couple inches tall after 5 weeks!

that sounds like way too much water, that could be why its so small, ive heard over watering will make the growth very very slow. but that's just what I heard ive never experienced it

even at only 13 watts the seedling should still be bigger. they don't use that much light when young. how did u test your light to find out it was only putting out 13 watts

some strains are really slow. the alien blackberry strain i'm runnin is really slow to veg. it's short and wide also. the blackberry kush and blue widow i'm runnin grows super fast. the abb takes 1.5 month to get 1.5'.. the blue widow/blackberry kush will reach that in 2 weeks or so

This is a plant that is 9 days old 0 nutes, 1 bulb similar to this one http://www.hydroponics.net/i/137085 It is still on rockwool will be moving to waterfarm soon. It gets 18/6 light.
Please note that it is a CFL so it is kept 2 inches away from the plant.

I also to a screen shot of the stem so you can compare the colors. This is what a short bushy plant should look like at day 9 or so.

I don't understand why you are calling them short and wide or short and bushy. WAAAAY to early to call them that.

They are seedlings.

That's true, they need a few branches before they become bushy I guess I am just showing an example of leaves growing very close to each other like right on top of one another with no space/gap.

I dont remember the website I bought it from, but it was a legible grow light website. Now its made in China, just like most other panels. Here is a pic of what mine looks like exactly. http://www.sunslighting.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=2501QUAD&gclid=CNbHovSrhLYCFQzNnAodpGwAaQ
I have discontinued use btw as of 4 days ago, and now use a total of 66 Watts coming from two 5000k CFLs. I plan to add 2 more bulbs once I build a decent fixture. I know that for a good three weeks, I kept that panel 2 feet above the seedling, probably stretching it and damaging it. Now I have learned my lesson and have the new CFLs at 3 inches above the plant.

also, is that tin foil or mylar on your walls?
This is a Sun Chips compostable bag that I turned inside out. I know, not enough to cover the whole area. Im working on adding more necessities as i get more money.

I always stick a small stick from a bottle rocket in the soil and feel for moisture. Then I double check using my index finger. I dont check the PH or PPM I dont have the meters. As far as one guy saying my stem is brown (overwatering?) but my stem and plant are lime green, turning a little greener as time progresses. Now my stem is actually green, the pictures flash distorted the image.

OTHER UPDATES: Im working on getting y-adapters and will end up ordering them. Need them for fixture to add more bulbs. Agreed 5000k bulbs might need warmer color to supplement growth. Just watered the plants today, now the stem seems flimsy and the leaves are drooping to the side.
