Plant to Plant Competition (Proximity)

So I want everybody's thoughts here. To keep it simple, I have noticed over the last few months that when i push my veg plants right up together (will post pics in the morning,) that they seem to really compete for light, and seem to grow faster, and, more importantly, they seem much stronger. I've even even done a sort of "head-to-head" trial of this phenomenon and it certainly seemed as if the girls that were made to push and shove for the light had much, much thicker stalks and trunks, and, surprisingly, tighter inter-nodal spacing.

So do ya'll think I'm crazy or what? I have not, and will not, do this with plants that are flowering.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

They will its survival of the fittest there competing for light, but this is not a good thing because of stretch, look at the node distance ,your talking 2/3 inch, rather than a cm if you keep them apart from each other.....

Kinda like MMMA, marijuana mixed martial arts :). Pretty sure putting them together is not a great thing though. Some trees will actually stop producing in the side that is mixed with another tree and concentrate in the other side. I guess we aren't talk g about trees though....never mind :(.
