You don't have to LST or top or anything like that. Training does not affect yield, it does, however, help provide uniform bud growth. A plant trained properly will have lots of equal sized nugs, where as your plant, if you still leave it alone, will have a giant main cola, and some other larger nugs, with a bunch of medium-small sized nugs.
Here is an example of my plant that I scrogged, super cropped, and topped.

Edit: Didn't see this earlier
Veg: 3-1-2
Early Bloom: 2-1-2
Mid Bloom: 1-1-2
Late Bloom: 0-1-2
Excess phosphorous (P) won't hurt your plant too much, it will just probably just make older growth start to yellow, which I think is a bad thing, but some people like to prune anyway. I personally think that if you can keep a whole plant alive, then you will maximize your yield, but to each there own.

True that brands don't matter too much. Kind of true about npk values. You want to make sure that FOR ALL STAGES OF GROWTH your potassium (k) is double your phosphorous. Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal have the proper ratios laid out for each stage of growth. I took this from Beansly's post about NPK ratios:Honestly, brands don't matter that much. You need a small bottle of the stuff for veg, high in N (nitrogen), and a larger bottle of the flowering stuff, high in P (phosphorous).
