Plants growing 'too tall'

I do 5 gal DWC with humboldt nutes. 400HPS veg 1K HPS flower. I veg for 3-4 weeks topping ~twice and flip at ~12-15 inches. Every time my indica dom hybrids stretch to 60+ inches. I had to chop a sativa dom hybrid at 70 when it was above the light.

So main question is how can I better control this to get <45 inches after stretch. Maybe MH thru stretch. I dont feel like vegging for less is going to work due to not reaching sexual maturity for one, two being lack of branching that early.

Any tips?! Ty

Are you getting big swings in temperature between your daytime and night time settings? That can help cause stretch.

2 things. Alone or together.

1. Super cropping, even in early flower is fine. I do it with no problems. It's a small pinch of the stem, roll it in your fingers, and bend it on over.

2. Utilize a screen and just keep bending the branches under it, or use yoyos or ties to hold your branches down.

3.? Keep your lights closer throughout the entire run?

Also an earlier flip might be the easiest solution. You know it grows a lot of branches even in flip.

On average plants stretch during flowering. Each strain can stretch different amounts. You need to properly record for your strain types what stretching that you want prior to flowering, stopping at your correct veg heighth. Having higher ceilings is always a benefit. I have grown plants over 14' in height indoors. Just honestly depends on your preference and abilities to what you want. Everything has its draw backs and benefits. Perfect example is the difficulty of growing outdoor strains indoor (mostly sativa dominant types).

Any tips on how high up the plant I should aim to supercrop? somewhere in the top 30% i imagine?
