Plants under 400watt hps

How many plants can I get under a 400watt hps? My room dimension is 5x2.5x6' and the plants will be about 2' 1/2" at the end of flowering.

I have a 400HPS and can do 4 no problem any more than you mess with the yield. I tried 7 one and it didnt work out as I had hoped.

^Yeah, that sounds about right. There's really no exact preferred number, due to the differences in finished plant sized(SOG vs. one large plant, for example). But, with the size you've given, I agree, 4 is about max.

four plants in 5 gals, or six plants in 3 gals. topping and lst'ing (low stress training) to create wider, shorter bushes for bigger yields per plant. or you could do a Sea Of Green and pack many small square pots into that space, running 15 to 25 plants focusing on one main cola per plant.

I think I'm going to top them, a little bit of LST and trimming the bottom branches off.

Just figure the light as being about to cover the entire 2.5' width, and 3' of length. The other 2' is pretty much useless, so whatever you manage to squeeze into that 2.5' x 3' area,(maybe 6" more, but that's pushing it) will be your max. You'll have to add some decent side-lighting, to be able to make use of the rest of the space.

Yeah I don't want the plants to be too tall because it's just 400 watt

Oh and the strain I'm going to grow is purple kush ;]

I'm working on my first grow currently and will be flowering under a 400w also. 6 White Widow plants FIM/Scrog style =) Seedling are only a week old. Going to be fun. You could try putting garden trellis netting about 1.5ft or 2ft over your flower area and try the scrog method over LST. I'm thinking it's the easier route and should provide similar if not better yield than LST.

I was talking about width, not heigth. 5' is too wide for a 400.

It's in a closet so the dimensions are a bit whack
