Plasma lights--worth the hype

I was wondering if anyone has had some experience with the 300w plasma grow light from monstergardens.com (or any of the plasma lights).

Are they worth the hype? They're pretty expensive, and so I was wondering they really do produce the yield they claim to (1k hps), and if they really are cooler or not.

I'd appreciate any stories or notes!

My Gavita plasma will be here next week. I have a close friend that works at the grow shop in Denver, CO. He actually went to Holland to check out a few Gavita grows. They use the dual sided HPS lights in green houses for roses and organic food. The one he looked at had 3,000 of these Gavitas turned down to 750 watts(They are dimmable). They have the plasmas and the dimmable dual sided hps lights on display. This is the guy I get my info from. He looked me in the eyes and told me to go for it. They have been using them in Holland for a minute and get amazing results. Word is, using the HPS and plasma in pairs is the ultimate way to get high yield/connoisseur quality product. You will see more things soon from the Dutch. In the next couple months APTUS Nutrients will also be available. They shoudl be available in the next couple weeks in CA, and soon after that here in CO. I have friends in CA that are getting 2.5 lbs per 1,000watts in dirt, all organic nute additives in DIRT! Go dutch or go home :)

As soon as I get my plasma I will start a journal, I have 40 Hashplants I'm vegging. I'm stoked!

Peace,
Neb

Thanks for responding--it sounds like these plasma lights have a lot of potential to help us maximize our yield--

Mixing the light sounds like the right way to go...I had a lot of success mixing hps with LED lights (got over a pound with 8 plants using 900 watts total, 400 hps and the rest LED--two blackstars, and two 90w ufo), and so it makes sense mixing plasma would have good results as well. Hopefully, even better...

Please keep me posted about your journal--I'd love to follow it. I went ahead and sprung for one of these plasma lights, it should be arriving this week...I'm way too disorganized to keep up with a journal, but either way we'll have to compare notes.

All the best,
D

Word, I recommend you look in to the rest of Gavita's line of lights. The 1000 HPS they make is a 400V dual sided HPS bulb. It produces 15% more lumens. It is also dimmable. I have to say, Gavita makes amazing lights. The HPS is the best HID light I have seen. The proving ground has been f'n Holland. It's where it ALL started. They make their lights for growing, and they are the only light company that makes their lights solely for cultivation. This ancient HID technology was originally made for commercial use. Their plasma has some features that the Stray G2 does not have. You made the right choice :) I'm starting with 2 of their HPS and 2 plasmas, I'm trying to track down the right light mover...

so far these claims seem to be that of LED's when they first hit the market. i saw in the recent high times a amsterdam facility used 5 1k hps and one of the plasmas right in the middle. didnt see any end results that would lead me to believe this will revolutionize growing. ill stick to what is tried and true, but if i see u knocking out crazy phat nugs like nothing ive ever seen, ill buy a PLASMA.

yielding over a lb with 900 watts and 5 lights?? why not just simplify and do yourself a huge moneysaving favor by buying a nice 1k ballast, sure its 100 more watts but 5 lights...thats alot for 1lb

Lol--you are so right. The total cost of those lights was about $1500. But what I did save on, was heat...I set up a little something-something where I can't get access to any other cooling other than the general AC cooling, so I was trying to control heat the best I could. In the end, it did work out nicely. A little expensive to get started, but I would never have been able to control the heat out of a 1k light.

That's what keeps all of this interesting--how much we have to mold our given set of circumstances to make a grow successful. If I could have controlled heat, I totally agree one 1k would have been a lot cheaper and just as effective. But in this case, it was a no go...unfortunately :(

man if i were u i would have invested 1500 in a grow tent, nice light, filter/fan and a portable a/c unit, they only run about $200 low end and up. with the set up your talkin about im sure you had room. tents are underestimated and imo amazing, pickin up 2 4x8s 4 1ks, portable ac and savin up alot and im comin to cali man. in your opinion which cities should i look into for rent under 1k for a 2 br, low(er) crime. i was lookin at lancaster, sacramento, sf/bay area and palmdale. which are the most lenient and will be easiest to find a job?
