Hey all,

My friend is contructing a new flowering room in a 8ftx8ftx9ft walk in closet and asked for some help designing it. I told him i knew the perfect place to ask for brilliant help. All and any advice is very much appreciated. He will be vegging the plants (probably super skunk) in a seperate grow cabinet until he has about 8-12 plants that are about 2-3ft tall, in which he will then place them in the flowering room hoping to grow 8-12 monsters or as big as possible. These will be grown in soil and he hopes to produce maximum yield. He basically has a set plan but would like to know further advice. Here it goes:

Room- Walk in closet will be coated in flat white paint to be ultra reflective. Any other suggestions?

Lighting - He was thinking maybe 1 1000w hps or maybe 2 600's hps. What do you think and any suggestions on particular brands?

Ventilation - 2 fans maybe more depending on suggestions. He will cut holes in the door of the closet to properly fit fans. One exhaust fan near the top of the door and one in-take fan near the bottom. How many cfm's do you think are required to properly control heat, odor, and proper airflow throughout the room? Also any particular brands suggestions will be appreciated. A portable ac unit may be added to cool down closet if need be. Oscillating fans 2-3 will be added in the room to properly circulate airflow throughout the room. Also no cool tubes will be added on lights, so he will need enough air to properly keep temps under control. Also a humidifier will be added to help control humidity.

Odor control - Will add a carbon filter to exhaust fan. Or will purchase ozone generator or machine or whatever they are called to control smell or maybe both. What do u suggest for this size room? Any particular brands would be much appreciated.

That pretty much sums it up. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

All advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Even critiques or negative views. He wants to do this the right way as he will go for ultimate yield and he wishes to also just have a fun and enjoyable experience through this journey. I know all of you are the right people to ask. Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated. :bigjoint:

Sounds like you have it under control, but just a hint that a 1K watt hps will raise the temp in the room tremendously. If you're doing fans I would get one 6 inch fan and one 8 inch fan to maintain neg pressure in the room as well as to suck the living hell out of the biggest carbon filter you can get your hands on (CAN 66 or whatever htgsupply.com) If you are not worried about sound then you're good, but make sure you vent to the outside if possible. Ambient room air in any part of the house will get stale and diminish in CO2 levels without proper ventilation if you have monster plants. Your setup is almost just like one I've seen ;-). That person wants to figure out how to get two 1K watt hps with two 2x4 trays in the room without it getting hot sealed with CO2. Your room sounds nice since you can cut the door.

Thanks for the help. i know he is atleast getting a can 66 maybe even a can 100. with an intake fan that brings in about half of the amount of air the exhaust fan does. I know he def plans on adding a c02 tank to the room to help with growth. i appreciate your help.

if you guys want serious poundage, use a 600w for every 3x3 space in that room, if you put 6x600;s in there it woudlnt be too much

everything sounds good, but i would do more plants at a smaller size, flip around 12 inches and put more lights. morelight = more bud!!! monsters wasted alot of time in my opinion, i get all top bud form sea of green. lights (even 1k watt) only penetrate 10-12 inches. good luck!

so vegging for a long time is a waste, your better off getting your clones going and vegging them till they hit 12-18inches and just plant more of them...take a clone about a month to reach that

So in a room that size, how the hell would you cool 2K or more watts with just A/C? You would have to have the A/C on 60 degrees the whole time and vent cool air into the hoods, right? With CO2 they say the temp in the room can be higher and still get good growth.

i'm really not sure. he is working on trying to figure out a way to cool the light/lights also. may have to buy a cool tube i suppose but with the way we our venting through the door i guess we would have to add another hole and another fan to cool the light/lights right?

i tried telling my friend that but he is worried about causing too much heat and lighting that would tip off the 5-0. do u think he has anything to worry about? he lives in a huge house with like 6 bedrooms. i heard a rule about as long as u have about 1000w for every bedroom that ur fine and that it wont draw attention to the cops or the electric company as long as u pay ur bills on time. my friend is just being extra cautious. how many watts of light could we get away with in that room?

the heat is nothing to worry about as long as he keeps his mouth shut, which he is not very good at, since you know. but heat and cops are no big-e cause its only a room or 2 not the whole house. i run almost 3000 watts in a 10x10 room. but your buddy needs to tone down the plant size. first off he will have 6 ft plants at the end, and most of the bud will be underdeveloped below the middle of the plant. also you will not be able to give the plant the light that is needed from 1-2 lights regardless of wattage. i strongly suggest 12 inch plants to start with. if you go huge the first time, it will take way to fucking long and you will not be satisfied with the results. also it takes a lot of work to care for such a large plant or several of them. save the huge plants for outdoor. good luck

p.s.- i know people running over 8000W in one room in the house w/ 1500 dollar elec bill. he has never had a problem in 10 years. the DEA is not as big as you think. just make sure your friend is legit.

Thanks for the advice. aslo if you dont mind he will be vegging in a 4 foot wide 1.5 ft deep and 6 foot tall cabinet that will be seperated into a top and bottom chamber where he wishes to vegg all the plants. he plans on using fluorescents to keep temps down. how many watts of fluros do u think he will need? he hopes to vegg each of the plants til they are about 1.5ft to 2 ft maybe less when i tell him about ur advice for shorter height and more plants

he could just get 2-3 "sunblaze" floros. they are 4 ft long, cheap and provide 6500K each, these are what i use. and if your friend thinks small plants are not cool, show him this pic. these are my plants, and they are flowered at 6 inches or so...and i harvest over a half zip each.

those look awesome. how exactly did u get them to flower like that. just vegg for very little and lollipop them? i need to learn how to do that. He still would like to vegg to about 1.5 ft then flower and create a nice SoG.. i think he is now going to try to pack the room as much as possible and get two 1000's. pack in as many as possible. the light foot print should cover all the room and hopefully he will have some good results. any advice on trimming? or any thing else he might need to deal with.
