Please HELP for my Purple Kush Clones...

Greetings and Thank You in advance for your help. I received 4 purple kush clones 1 week ago.

Procedures:

Up til 2 days ago, I was watering them everyday, and giving them 1/8 strengh nutrients, in ph balanced water. (fox farm grow big). soil (sunshine mix 4) is drying now. Perhaps I was over-watering?

Ive also been misting them with 1/8 strength nutrients. Too early for nutrients?

They were 16" away from a 400w HPS, I just moved them to about 2.5 feet, thinking it could be heat stress?....

and/or nitrogen deficiency?....

They were well rooted in rockwool, with nice thick sturdy stems. I transplanted them to 5" pots same day.

Currently, they are under my 400 W HPS light, until my 6500K CFL tubes get delivered.

The temp under the light is approx 82F, with a fan blowing constantly in an open room.

Symptoms:

The tips and outer edges of the leaves are yellowing / lighter green.

New leaves are twisting like corkscrews.

Some edges are curling under, some up.

Some random burnt looking spots in middle areas of leaves

Diagnosis:

Heat stress?
Over-watering?
Nitrogen deficiency?
Too much nutrients?

Thanks again.........

The fox farm soil will have plenty enough nutes for at least 2 weeks if you feed constantly the level of nutes in the soil will go up constantly when plants are that age i'd say the most i would feed would be every other watering depending on the strain, but to bee honest a half feed strengh feed, twice a week will be more than enough during veg. flush 4 at least a week and your new growth will actually start growing again but a bit curly, but thats almost definately why they look how they do now.

Thank you. Great explanation and plan of action. Much appreciated. The gentleman at the store told me that the SUNSHINE MIX 4 does NOT have many nutrients in it, so to use a bit in the beginning. I guess I was misdirected and gave too much as well. What exactly do you mean when you say flush 4 a week?
Thanks again.

Yeah, those clones can live in FFOF or similar for about a month or so without any added nutes. After they have been in that for a month or so, then start giving them some mild nutes 1/8 - 1/4 for starters should be fine. I'd go 1/4 though. As you posted above, sunshine mix is soiless..so no nutes in it already.

Anyway, nute burn for sure. Stop adding nutes, flush at least 2 -3 times the amount of water through your pots as their is medium (ie 1 gallon pot gets 2 - 3 gallons flushed through). Try to do your flush when the buckets are already a bit dry, that way you dont over water.

Flushing for a week basically means that for at least the next week you will be giving them nothing but pure water. I would do a proper flush the first time...then just use regular water (in normal amounts) for the next week when they need it.

Then after you are done with the week flushing, start adding 1/4 nutes again. Only every OTHER watering though. Then slowly bump the nutes up from there.

What is your pH at anyway? Just curious...

Thank YOU KINDLY. The PH of my solution had been 6.5. I have not tested the PH of my soil, nor the PH of my run off. I just read about testing run off.

you problem is caused by misting too much with the light on.
you should mist only when your light is off or a few seconds before it goes off.
if you mist with the light on you should higher it quite a bit.

misting with the 400W close you create severe heat issues due to a magnifying glass effect the water drops create.

either stop misting or mist once when the lights go off.

Wow.....Thanks. Do you think this is the cause of all of my problems? Or should I do a flush as well? I am already in the process of flushing one of them.

flushing is bad for the plants. and they shouldn't need it right now. 1\8strength is nothing. it is not the cause.

stop misting as a start. in a week see if it solves the issue. might be something else but I think this is the MAIN reason.

I have never been told that flushing is bad for plants. Since when?

I know that 1/8th strength isn't much. These are small plants, in a medium that does have some nutes in it. Sounds like he has been watering with nutes every watering.

Are you saying its not possible for the nutes to have reached a point in the medium to where it might be a bit much for the plants?

I do agree though, may want to stop misting..and indeed if you do mist..do it right after (or right before) the lights go out.

Thanks. I have stopped misting completely. I did do a minor flush / heavy watering with plain ph'd water as I was already in the process. We'll see....

Good luck on finding the source of your problem i thought it kinda like looked like nute burn was the problem and they are right about the misting i actually experienced this my first grow didn't do too much damage but you could see the burn whole where the water drops were luckly i didn't get much water on them it was actually water that driped off my hands from adding water.

Thanks to all who offered help. My plants are doing MUCH BETTER. I had numerous problems going on:

1. Overwatering
2. Misting w/ lights on
3. Nutes - too often, to soon.

I flushed then let the soil dry out completely. I now water only when the soil drys out completely...about once a week. I will introduce nutrients in the next watering at 1/4 strength.
