Please Help! Need help setting up Venting for Flower Room

Hi all,

A friend of mine has a 8ftx8ftx8ft flowering room and is wondering the best way to vent this. The room is actually a walk in closet.

He plans on having 2x1000 watt hps with air cooled reflectors. These specifically
http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48332 .....plus both will have a Cooltube 8 Reflector.. (picture and description on previous links page towards bottom where options and upgrades are listed)

Also a GrowBright 8" Inline Fan and Charcoal filter combo will be used to hopefully cool the room and rid the room of any odor. Link - http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=53961

He will be venting through the closet door by cutting holes in the door to place the connective ducting which will connect to the fan and lights. What is your opinion of the best way to vent this room successfully.

He was thinking the set up would look like this going from inside the room to out.... Carbon filter---->2 1000 watters ducting in between each---->Ducting---->GrowBright Inline fan 8"(which is connected to door) will suck the air out through the door and into the other room.

Will this be enough to rid the room of smell and also cool the lights enough?

He was thinking of adding an inline fan Growbright 6" high velocity fan pictured here http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=52583 to cool the room if need be. Just trying to save money if at all possible.

If i need to be more clear with my explanation of the room or idea of how to vent please let me know.

Thanks for all your help in advance. Happy 420

Yea man, thats quite confusing. Why are you running a charcoal filter on air cooled lights? If your already cutting holes in the door for that, then why not just cut 2 more holes for intake and exhaust fans?

That's why I am asking. Just trying to save as much money as possible and purchase the least amount of fans as possible to sufficiently ventilate this room and eliminate odor.

Therefore would you:
suggest having a intake hole in the door using a 6" inline to cool the lights by blowing cool air into the cool tubes and out the other side into the room to also help cool the room and bring in new air. Will this technique work or is it better to suck hot air off the bulbs rather than blowing air onto them to cool them? and Then have a second hole in the door for exhaust and use the 8" inline and charcoal filter to exhaust the room and to pull hot air from the room.

I dunno really what I should do. Does anyone have any ideas on the best possible set up for this?

Your gonna need to look at things properly.
If your cooling lights with a fan, then that all that fan can do. It is a sealed duct with sealed lights. You don't want any leaks or holes or openings other than outside the room. So you can't use the light cooling fan for an intake. Your going to need to use an intake fan as well as an exhaust fan. Unless you want to run a passive intake. Which is a dumb idea. And it is better to suck the air through the lights, but make bloody well sure that they are sealed good, or your going to suck smelly air from the room right out.

I think you could get pretty warm with those lights if you dont have proper air exchange. My 400 watt sys gets the room real hot. I think that you will end up buying everything eventually so just get it over with and done right. I am going to take my own advice right now.

Even if both lights are in cool tubes with an 8" Inline fan sucking air off of them? How hot to u think the room will get? Yeah i think he is just go ahead and get everything. It'll be better in the long run for sure.

i was once where you were trying to save money. I ended up buying the intake fan, exhaust with filter fan, and a fan to run through the lights. I wish i woulda bought everything in the beginning because trying to work on the room when you have it full of plants is a pain in the ass. Just get the 3 separate fans now save yourself the headache plus my yeild has doubled or more since using all 3 seperate fans. I used to have a intake fan and a exhaust fan that ran through the lights. Using 1 fan to filter and cool lights is not a good idea in my opinion. I just dont believe that all air cooled hoods are air tight. So they need there own fan. and the filter fan loses torque when you run so much ducting. good luck and just remember this is just my opinion.

Thanks for your reply.

I think he is just going to go ahead and get 3 fans. One for cooling the lights, one for exhaust and filtering, and one for intake. Do you have any suggestions on what kind of fan to get for each? or how many cfm's each fan should be in order to successfully do all these things in a 8ftx8ftx8ft flowering room? Thanks again for all your help.
