Please help, they burn!

- These plants are a month old and were under CFLs until a couple of days ago and CFLs were replaced by 150W HIDs.

- The bulbs are at least 10 inches from the tops.

- They were water sprayed when the lights were off, dried for several hours and then the lights were turned on.

- I assumed the burns were due to the heat released by the bulbs and put a glass cover on the fixture. The glass seems to be preventing the heat from being released directly towards the plants. Instead, the heat is forced to leak out from somewhere else. But i don't know if the glass interferes with the efficiency of the bulbs somehow...

- It seems that the large fan leaves and the top cola! have burnt but the new growth from the lower nodes look ok. Should i simply cut the burnt leaves?

- The tallest plant, which is closest to the bulbs, doesn't have any burns!?

- I put the lights farther away and gave up misting.

What do you think?

Thanks.

I would do two things. They might be things you have already done but you never know. Point your fan directly at the empty space between the light and the tops of your plants. Get a powerful breeze sweeping the heat out of the way before it can reach your plants. Number two is move the light back to 2 feet. Allow your plants to recover. The curled edges will most likely die but don't cut anything for now. Once the plants are doing better then start moving the light closer two inches a day. Stop moving it when you see heat stress again. And I would avoid spraying anything on the plants at all. Not necessary IMO.
