Please help with coco coir

Hello fellow member.

I am gona start a grow in coco coir. The problem i have is to have a high ph in the coco it self its 6.4

When i check the runoff the ec is normal like the water i feed. But the ph is high about 6.5 can i affect this in some way i have flushed it probably with 10 times the pot size with 5.6 ec but still it stays the same. I know coco do have a high ph naturaly.

Will this affect my plants even if i feed it with the correct ph for coco 5.6 to 6.2.? / flodas

yes you'll be fine.. just add your nutes. and some cal/mag.. for some reason coco holds onto cal. longer than others so you might get some sotra def if i dont then it will release so down he road you can lessen the amount of cal if you want.. it likes a lot of cal.. so i run it thru until the last weeks of bloom..

Coco is self buffering so it will be hard to change the ph. There's no need, just feed at the 5.6-6.2 range and it will all be good.
Keep an eye out for calcium deficiency, new coco grabs hold of cal for a while making it unavailable to the roots. So a bottle of cal/mag is usually required.
Once you have recycled the coco a few grows its not needed as often.

i find i get some issue reusing old media. best to throw away in my situation..

I have been mostly recycling mine for around 5 years without much problem. I flush for last 3 feeds to remove salts and then let it dry out before breaking it up and adding it back to my stocks. But you do get some dusty crap which I throw away so I do have to add new stuff every so often.

i think i dont let it sit . i did the same and boiled water to flush . that and perlite. but always something. appears.i was making a cool outdoor grow space . but moved so start over. . bonus i have a nice south facing yard.with a patio in case it rains or hail. imma try 30 gal smart pots . still got a month b4 can put outside. last year got a late start.. july 1 . ill b ready for this year. lol

Great answers thank you all! I will buy cal - mag and add that on top of my normal schedule. What kind of product would you use when u already have a 2 part nutrient and some extra magnesium from Gold-label (europe) should i skip my normal magnesium or maybe cut it down abit when adding calmag?

I have two to choose betwen one is with 9-0-0 and the other is 2-0-0. I think the last one would be best since it have lesser N so there is a less chance of them getting Nitrogen toxicity in the long run am i right. ? :confused: / Flodas

i had to move to one state to be able to use my med card in a state that would not give me one . cuz of a charge 20 odd years ago.. truly stealth is the way to go... and a trip to amsterdam. is closer than you think. happy growing..

your two part?? CANNA.? veg? 9 bloom 2. but you should have some kinda PK and micro in that nute line?

Are you using the canna coco A+B range? Should have micros so if adding a cal/mag cut down on the mag that you have on its own. Provided your ph is right and your nutrients provide the full range(which they should.
I would get the cal/mag plus (second one) for the reason you said, less N.

me personally ive evolved to use the salts the other company goes to and uses. and have found a great recipe. but need to know what week your in. and you have to buy it by the 55lbs size bags so you have to invest. but i wont need anything for a few years of growing. stuff wont go bad.

this was a plant i grew just with gh micro/ bloom and cal/ mag and koolbloom last weeks IMG_0251.JPG

Nice Man, that nug looks solid as a rock.
Yeah I have been thinking about raw salts. Canna range doesn't cost me too much though and lasts me a long time. But if things ever change with the laws here I will go down that road and save myself some coin. It also helps massively with understanding exactly what plants need from strain to strain. Rather than blindly following a schedule designed to get you to spend more cash!
I do admire those who mix there own.

I'm new to coco, but played around with some feeds recently to find out what the crack is...

I use 10 litres of water. got a 7.5ml spoon. I do 2 spoons of gh flora micro, then 1 of plant magic magne cal+, then 3 of gh flora bloom. I have found plants love this. It brings my ph to 5.8-5.9.

Im using goldlabel from holland. Its a two part and a pk boost veg 6-2-8 + 5%cal and 2%mag bloom and 6-14-19 + 5%cal and 2%mag i have extra magnesium i probably will Cum down on as you mention.

only reason is the 50 mile drive too go get it. or i would still be using it.. i like it some what easy to use. and Canna was like really a 4 par with a cal mag sup. but as soon as it asked to start using the boost.? it allowed complete uptake of every last nutriment in the medium even all the cal the coco was holding on too.. there is a new line out that gave me their 4 part line to try. for free. and it has a app to tell you what it needs.each week. which is kinda cool . just go to facebook look up Elite nutrients . and not the dude trying to get you on his steroids or whateva he is selling. made in cali. for high end comercial use. free is free.
