OP, you just need a little more basic gardening knowledge under your belt. This type of system is not recommended for the grow medium that you’re using, because different grow mediums require different methods of watering/fertilization.
There is a lot of new technology that is coming out claiming to automate your grow, but if used improperly can actually harm your grow instead. The best way to avoid these pitfalls is to learn more about the system/medium/style you intend to use and apply it with some basic gardening knowledge.
You can grow great plants with very little technology, and a little bit of experience. Check out some of the grow journals, and see what methods people are using successfully, and how they’re doing it. If you stick with it, you’ll get there, just don’t give up and keep trying to learn.
