plug-in sockets

ok today i woke up with some plumbing problems and my pops has to make a trip to Home Depot to get a snake. so i tag along plus i knew i had to get some supplies anyways. so he goes to the plumbing section and i head to the lighting section. after i get out of this daze from looking at this 200 watt Cfl, i go to the socket section. and i find these sockets that u can just screw into the socket, then plug right into the wall. Now i know some of you have heard of these, i have to, but this is the first time i've actually got any. they were actually on sale for 2.09 a piece, which beats buying a 10-20 dollar lamp just to strip it for its parts. i winded up buying eight of them and it came out to be a little over 16 dollars. now i can take a surge protector and just put 2 on each one and put them on each side of the grow box. I think what attracts me to these is the simplicity, and the fact that they are so cheap!!! i was expecting to pay like maybe 5 a piece or more. so for thoes of you who are doing indoor grows with cfls and are not aware of them i'd suggest you go out and get some. it'll make your job a hell of alot easier :bigjoint:

let me know how well they work for you, as i can never find y splittes at walmart or home depot or anywhere. sickest thing ive seen with these was a srge protecting power strip with like 4-8 plugs and cfls attached. it looks kinda like a fire trap to me but if it works for you, ill trust them i guess

a similar thing I saw this weekend at walgreens- a socket with plugin cord for floodlights 150 watt max. U can just screw a floodlight on and plugin to power outlet instead of rigging it up. $5

thats what im gunna do but im gunna put maybe 2-3 on each surge protector and not 8. 8 is a little too much to put on because cfl do give off some heat and i can just picture 8 cfls running 18 hours of the day and they are all touching eachother.........its gunna be a mess. but im gunna try and make it a little cleaner

i will, i got 11 sprouts waiting and i have a fe on the way. im gunna paint the inside of my grow box tonight and let it dry, then tomarrow im going to set everything up. still waiting on some cfls, but atleast everything will be ready for me to put them in once i get the bulbs. I'm debating on weither i should make an air vent seeing as how im only using the box to get my plants strong and ready for the outdoors or making a flowering box, and I can leaver the top open seeing as how I dont really have to worry about people finding them, and just have a fan on them........

I got my hands on a couple and plan on installing them into this single-plant-styrofoam-cooler-growboxr I'm designing - This is where I'm at so far, those are 1600lumen soft CFLs. Does anyone see any problems with this set up? The red squares are where I entend to put my fans in, and the black circles are where I'm going to put the sockets through the sidewalls

Right on. I'm just doing straight CFLs for this one. Speaking of heat, I got asked if the styrofoam would melt because of the lights, I answered that in my thread in the "Grow Room & Design Setup" section, "Building single-plant growbox" - check it out if you're interested

i have 2 of those that i use. Another thing you can do is that there are sockets that basically screw into another socket and has two outlets on each side. so you can screw it into a socket and put to of those plug ins on it getting three bulbs on 1 socket or if you wanted throw a y splitter on the from and get 4 bulbs on. Both cover a lot of area. Just some things to think of. I like to keep a lot of different options since as the plant grows i need to be able to get light to different parts of the plant more and having multiple options helps me out.

yea i have a whole bunch of thoes lying around the house because i have 3 tube fluros in my room as regular lighting and the string turns them off and on instead of unplugging them.
