if you have insects that hatch from your soil, some people say to fix that to pour hot water all over the soil prior to potting with it.

they say it will kill the bugs, but will it just cook them instead? little hardboiled bug eggs everywhere in the soil, does it become nutritional content for the plants?

Are you wanting to hardboil or poach them? It's important to get all the information before we give advice. And what kinda bug eggs will you be poaching?

Oh, and change you socks,. That advice is free, :bigjoint:

I have only ever heard of baking soil to sterilize.
not my idea. I need to rid my soil of pests and I kind of get grossed out thinking about cooking bug eggs in the same oven I use to cook pot roasts in.

If your soil has pests than you need to look at different soil or a different approach to storage.

I’ve used boiling water to get rid of springtails in coco that I had laying around for over 5months but that was only small pots and then I replaced the coco before transplant time to 11L pots.

What soil are you choosing?
Where are you storing it?
what bugs are you finding in it?

(Some soil has “good” bugs in it as they are a part of the composting cycle and without good bugs you don’t get enough conversion happening)

it' a seed starting mix, little black beetles have emerged from the soil, I didn't keep track, but currently three plants aren't growing at the same pace as my other plant. regardless, I'd like to prevent any more of these things from hatching.

I’d probably use the mix and mix in Gnatrol. Sprinkle with Diatomaceous Earth. There are bugs and other creatures in all ROLS. A few are problems.

so nutrition, right? I'm trying to figure out if there's any nutritional content in my soil after boiling water all over it, last time I got a little over 2 weeks of nutrients, this time probably less
If you have healthy soil, then you should have plenty of beneficial bugs to keep the detrimental ones in check.
I prob don't have healthy soil, it came from canadian tire
