Im just joking and can see how you started this thread with good intentions, but i have a gut feeling this is gonna turn into a shit show as soon as someones feelings get hurt...

I guess if it brings some middle ground for people to recognize we are all on this site because we love ganja.
I just think the empathy this thread will draw in the politics section will quickly give way to feelings of superiority when people see that their political adversaries plant resembles the charlie brown christmas tree (yall know who you are ;))

Algae is common on rockwool, it is not normal.

If the surface of the rockwool is not drying out then the center of the rockwool is not drying out. So water without oxygen is trapped around the roots and fresh water with oxygen cannot get to them.

It is probably the most common mistake made and rockwool is not forgiving. I switched to the clay balls for that reason.

Hydroton can get algae, too. :]

I am not concerned about the algae. I am concerned that it is a side effect of over watering.

Yes, Hydroton can get algae too but it is almost impossible to over water using flood and drain with Hydroton. It eliminates one of many issues with growing.
