Polyploidy questions..

Okay..As it is particularly unsafe to severly prune cannabis plants, or any plant for that matter..How do you safely induce plants into polyploidy without using that poisonous plant shit? Also..Anybody have any good pictures of what polyploid cannabis actually looks like? Ive experimented a bit with it myself, although I cant really begin considering if an increase in about a half an ounce per plant is what is called "rapid production and boastful yields" due to polyploidy.
The only way to do this is with that nasty chemical.

I do not understand why seed companies do not sell seeds that are already treated.

My guess is what happens is a random genetic thing. Probably the guy who wrote about this initially did it and it worked great. If the results were 100% reliable a lot of people would do it. Probably the dutch breeders find they can achieve super genetics without chemicals.

Looking good geezer i had a northern lights #9 polyploid plant that turned out to be a fella Gutted could have been good but sadly not.

Where/how did you get your seeds?
i bought them myself in Amsterdam ... in the Dampkring seed shop

and the strain is New York City Diesel (NYCD) from Soma and i I was lucky because i got 2 polyploid plants from the same pack of seeds!

only way too get polyploidy plants,is too use colchicine.Stressing the plants by pulling off all the leaves will only stress the plant.Then all your left with is severely stressed out bisexual plants!!!!!!!!

over more than a month as passed since i switched the light to 12/12 and i haven't seen a single nanner on the polyploids (or in any other of my plants if it matters)! but i don't know why do I even bother to reply back!!! the picts speak for themselves... and i don't put my hands on the fire for no one, but i seriously don't think Soma would use poisonous colchicine on is strains!!! it's just not his 'style' but it's only my 2cents.

So the way its done is you use that nasty chemical, then once you have a modified DNA plant which is toxic you can breed that plant and get the same DNA but not nasty chemical.

polyploid wont give you a bigger harvest!!! But i have to say polyploid buds look pretty damn cool when in flowering!!!!!!!!!

Obviously you have never heard of cancer, a GENETIC mutation, triggered by either HEREDITY or ENVIRONMENTal factors.

Just because a trait is genetic, doesn't mean it has to be inherited. Play around with colchicine with one bare hand and leave the the other one safe. Do this for a period of time. Later when you develop a mutation in the "treated" hand and not in the other, explain to me which of your parents gave you that mutation.
 
Diploid plants, like cannabis, that are treated with toxic chemicals to induce polyploidy (a tetraploid plant) can sometimes produce inadequate seedlings due only to toxicity during development. When a diploid and tetraploid are bred, the resulting triploid seedlings are always infertile and produce no seeds or pollen. However, a triploid offspring can also be treated to double its chromosome count (hexaploid), which can POTENTIALLY reactivate its reproductive organs. When a successfully reproductive hexaploid is bred with either a diploid, tetraploid, or hexaploid, it ALMOST always will yield a fertile, non-triploid, polyploid offspring. The benefit of having a polyploid is that it will more than likely have a larger yield. Not only that, but polyploid plants are typically hardier, produce more, and produce larger fruits, flowers, buds, etc. For a cannabis plant this means that the plant is stronger, its buds are larger, there are more buds on the plant, and a fertile female will produce more seeds... which means more weed!!!

But it's never very easy to create polyploid plants out of diploids, and getting a fertile hexaploid is damn near impossible. Plus, triploid females are seedless... so why keep trying after that?

I have been growing for nearly 40 years and first read about Polyploid plants in a book my dad had that was published by the United States Government. Essentially what a Polyploid plant is is a plant that has more molecules of thc in the plants cell then a standard plant which is whats called a diploid chromosone which means that their are two thc molecules in each plant cell the book stated that you can create mutated plants with as high as seven thc molecules but the 3 thc molecule polyploid plant is the strongest.

I just have a question. I read about making Gold Plants (aka Super Plants) in a book I bought which directed me to another older book by another author to get the exact recipe for the colchicine solution needed.

In this book he claims that to make a true Gold Plant (columbian gold, hawaiin gold, etc...) you have to start from seeds and it cannot be done when starting with a clone. He goes on to say that most of the seeds will die so you have to plant a lot because you're going to need at least one male and one female. He cautions not to smoke any of the buds from these parent plants or from a clone made from them as this plant is poisonous. However the seeds they produce will become your Gold Plants.

He also goes on to state that while all strains become more potent, different strains will have different reations (more yeild, less yield, longer flowering periods, shorter flowering periods, longer veg cycle, shorter veg cycle, etc...) because you're changing the actual genetics of the plant.

So here's the question, why try to make one from a clone? Even if it works it sounds like a real pain in the ass compared to making them from seeds. And if you're buds don't get more potent, then you've just gone through all that for nothing. I think I'm starting to see why this has become a lost art.
 
Why don't you all just try it on one plant? I did...now I do it on all of them. My plants have never been bushier or healthier. Take risks in life. It will set you apart when it all works out.

I think you missed the point of what I was saying. There are 2 ways apparently to make Polyploidys, from seed or from an established plant.

If you make one from an established plant, then from what I've read your results aren't guaranteed.

Plus from what I gather, you're not changing the whole plant, you're only changing the area that you treat. Which means that you wont be able to get seeds to make more polyploidys and if you pull a clone you'll probably just get a regular plant that has to be treated.

Add to that the risk to exposure to the colchicine every time you treat a plant.

And finally, you're smoking the buds from a plant that you changed at a molecular level. And any geneticist will tell you that you're crazy for doing that because when you change a plants genetics you should never ingest that plant in any manner. It's dangerous.

On the other hand if you make them from seeds then you are changing the genetics of the whole plant, roots & all.

You only risk exposure to the Colchicine once when mixing the Colchicine solution that you're going to use to water the seeds once. So there's a much lower risk of exposing yourself to a poison.

Since you're changing the genetics of the first plants, you shouldn't smoke from them but when you plant the seeds that they produce, the babies will be Polyploidys. And since the whole plant is a Polyploidy, the clones you pull will also be polyploidys. You never again have to treat anything unless you want to make super plants from a second strain so you have 2 strains of polyploidys.

So if you make them from seed rather than from an established plant you're guaranteed success, you limit the risk of exposure to Colchicine, the buds are safe to smoke, you can pull clones....... I just don't see the sense in making them any other way.

And I have a theory working that in the 60s growers were using the "from seed" method and everything was fine. Then someone got the idea to try to make them from established plants and to new growers that didn't know any better, the "from established plant" method was the only way, but it was just too much of a pain in the ass so it didn't catch on with the new growers. As the older growers got old & retired, the art got lost.

If you're wondering what art I'm talking about, this is how you make gold plants. Ever hear of Columbian Gold? Ever wonder why you can't find any today? Now you know.

OK.. well i know this thread is old.. But I was just refereed to it because my White Widow plant is a PolyPloid or w.e... I have never heard of it before the other day.. I was talking to people on my thrad, and tellin how my plant have 4 leaves comin out the middle of the budsite instead of 2.. and someone posted a response saying it was called a PolyPloid.. and my bud-site is double the size of a normal one..

This js just what I was told;.. I'm not 100% sure if this is what it really is or not, but a few people have told me it was.. sooo here ya go.. heres a pic... ** I have a pic of a regular bud site on my plant with 2 leaves.. and then the mutant one with 4 leaves **

Also... you can see my grow if you'd like.. its in my signature.. Its about 1 1/2 weeks into flowering.. soo the PolyPloid should be budding soon.. should be interesting.. here ya go guys.......
