Poppy Grow?

i just put mine outside. they are very delicate the first few weeks. the sprouts turn crispy in the sun. next year i think i will start them inside.

Why did you need a lot? Long story, but I was just messing around and ran my nail across one and it was whiteish yellow ooze.
Is that the good stuff? Let it dry, roll it in a ball, and you're good to go? What would be a good amount to gather?
It was only a very small flower due to how we planted them. (opened package, dumped in pot) About 30 grew in a 13" pot... I thought they were weeds while growing... I didn't care for them at all but to give em some water, but we did plant them early early spring.

dont u get the resin from the preflowered bulb at tha top... i seen a huge history channel story on poppie in afghanistan and pakistan and the rest of the middle east... crazier drugs scare me tho... i just like weed

It actually comes from the seed pod, well after all of the petals fall. Depending on your watering scheduel, humidity, nutrients, etc. it could take as little as 7 days to ripen. I had a plant with 5 pods on it last year, got the White Persian seeds and am shooting for 8 at the moment.

oh fa real? when i saw it on history channell they were scraping that resin ish off the bulb where the flower is going to burst...

Yeah, the flower bud and seed pod look different. Before the flower appears their will be a bud like roses, tulips, etc. When the petals fall you will be left with a small pod, with what look like a crown on top. You still do not scrape at this point. Most casses the crown is a ligth yellow to light yellowish green/orange. Over the next week or two the pod will start to ripe and swell, also the crown will start to darken to a brown color. When this happens test the pod by puncturing a small hole in the outside layer of the pod(with a needle or small pin). If the ozzing sap/latex looks runny then wait a little longer and test the other side of the same pod, you want the latex to stick to the pod. Scrape the pod so you only puncture the outside layer. The pod has the outside layer of the pod, followed by a thin layer of opium, then another thin layer, and last the inside/seeds. pod High humidity and rain will effect your yeild drasticly. Harvest the opium latex when it is dry enough to work with. You should probably grow it in a pot if you live in a wet/humid area so you can hide it from moisture at harvest time.

Maybe some nasty poppy seed oil, poppy seed oil is made by cold pressing the seeds. I have never drank poppy seed oil before. Maybe they have been selling morphine all this time as poppy seed oil. The seeds are the only legal part of this plant in America. So, if you grow Cannabis I would try to keep this inside!

I am putting this to the test. I am soaking 1 oz of McCormick poppy seeds sold for consumption in everclear, 191 proof 95% Alc. I am not sure how long I will let this soak, but I am also guessing just 1 oz will do nothing, at which point I will try with 2 oz/58 grams. 1 jar is 2.12 oz/60 grams.
