Portable AC Controller

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding my AC unit. I have an 2014 model Ideal Air 12000 BTU portable AC (model 700870) I'm only running LEDs and the are cools pretty well. I like the fact I can run it in a sealed room, but I would like the ability to set a daytime night time temp. I called the company and procured the manual. In the manual it says it has auto restart capabilities which made me think about a controller. When I flip the breaker to the unit its not auto restarting. I have to push the power button. I am stuck on what to do. Does anyone have an idea of a controller or experience with this type of unit. Its perfect for my space, just trying to dial it in. Any info is appreciated!

That's interesting. I don't think you'll find a controller that would not cut the power. In my experience I had an portable ac unit (wynter) brand. I use a hygrotherm reptile controller and worked perfectly. Could the ac be faulty?

Does the ac have a remote? If so look at wifi AC controllers. There are a few brands sensibo is one and there are some other ones as well. Trolmaster makes one that works without the internet says it's for mini splits but it should work with any AC with a remote. I like the idea of working without the internet as if you lose connection at the scheduled time of temp change it won't change.

Hi, the AC does not have a remote. I called the company and the guy said I would have to hard wire a controller to the board. I got the schematic, just not sure how to hook it up lol.

How do you feel about DIY projects? What size area do you need to cool. I use a homemade rig thats great for tent size areas

I run a 15x15 space with 4 650w QB LEDs. I don't mind DIY projects. The AC works well, its just a pain on the ass to go down there and adjust the temp for night and day lol.

Ohhhh. I was thinking something else. I built a couple of these when my ac died. You put frozen water jugs in it and turn the fan on high. Itll cool things down and is pretty consistent for 6-9 hrs

Is this the correct one? You'll need a controller that can handle 11.5 amps

A WIFI controller like Sensibo or Pebble may work with your AC using it's remote control signaling. Since it auto restarts after power outage then something like a Autopilot Day / Night temp controller would run it for ya.

I believe he said it doesn't have a remote , which is odd most new units do, he also said that even though it's supposed to restart that it doesn't.

Would a back up power supply like those used for computers fill your needs? I will not be enough to run the AC. But it would keep the control panel energized when the power is off.
