Portable air conditioner for detached garage tent

So I picked this a/c unit up at an auction a few days ago $40, runs great, not loud, even has a dehumidifier setting, I plan to use it in a detached garage grow, I have a lot more head space in there, my only problem was lack of cooling. Then I got this thing, it has a vent on the rear to expel hot air, 4" so I plan on ducting it out of the tent( I'll have to make a way to connect it as I haven't found anywhere that sells the replacement part)

My questions are, has anyone used one of these before, if so how large of a tent can it cool (gets in the high 90°s here), and can the water shed from the back be used on the plants? IMAG0521.jpg IMAG0520.jpg

if your only running one 1000 it will cool well especially since they not only cool but act as a secondary exhausting unit for the room

You're still going to have heat issues if the temperature outside gets up to 90f and you don't have air cooled lights. I have a 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner also, it's in a 12x12 room cooling a 5x5x7 tent with 1200w, and when it gets above 85f outside I have to turn one of my 600's off just to keep the temperature down to about 83f.

Is it really worth it. It's been fucken hot down here lately and I still don't use a ac. Was going to get one. But it just created more heat haha

Are you running your lights in the night or day?

I'm in the USA the Midwest portion.
Same here, I guess I did leave out a lot of info, I have 600w of led and 600w hid w/air cooled hood plus all the cooling fans and ducting I need(2 ventec 6" 440 cfm)and I work in a place that sells ducting so I get that wholesale, I always run lights out from 9-9 in flower cycle am to pm, I had my small tent there last summer and it got way to hot so I had to bring it in, inside my basement ceiling in the area where I need to keep it only has 6' of clearance so I got a 6' tent, but I'm planning on a haze run for my next outing and wanted more verticle space(hear they like to stretch on ya) so when I saw the ac, I thought hmmmm. Me thinks it's time to go biggerer, just wondering how big I should go without going too big to cool

I have an 8000 BTU unit in a 12 x 10 room that holds my 2.5 x 4.5 x 7 tent. I am running an air cooled 600w hps and a 300w LED. AC runs out of the tent, but keeps my temps down. I can easily keep my temp around 80 in tent running at 72. Was 95 plus before.

My temps were really hot prior to AC. I'm in the deep south too.

Unit produces very little water. I will be surprised if you get a lot unless heavy dehumidifying.

BTW I cut the 4" hose on the back, found a nice 4" duct vent and ran it right into that. I had to install vent, but I didn't want to use the window adapter.

9000 btu covers a out 350-400 Sq feet BTW

Cool, my plan was to have the unit inside my tent, then run the exhaust out of the tent through one of the 4" holes and carry it on out the window, I had it running for a few hours to make sure it worked well and the heat coming out of the back neutralized the cold out the front, so I think it's gonna work better to get it compleatly out, might even rig up a y connector to vent my hood and ac out the window together..
I'm thinking 10x12x9 tent or so, it's a detached 4 car garage that only houses my motorcycle, so I've got space

In hindsight I wish I used a Y connector. I installed a vent for intake and two for exhaust . One for AC and one for my exhaust fan/light cooling. If I had a larger tent I might have done it in the tent.

I bought a 6000 BTU stand alone AC unit from Home Depot for 290 bucks. Looks like you got a good deal. Mine will cool my little room easily even with hot temps outside. When it isn't cooling it's bringing in fresh air so it's nice set up. It should do at least one 1K light for sure. Above that I'm not sure.

You got a good deal although the older ones were shit as far as efficiency but it was cheap :). No one can tell you if it's gonna cool unless they know your indoor/outdoor temps/humidity but it can't hurt :).

It works, been using it all summer and it's kept the garage a cool breezy 81-87 which ain't bad when it's been 100 with 80% humidity , very happy with its cooling, but your right she's a pricey bitch on the monthly
