I harvested an Ak-47 today after 4 1/2 months complete grow time.
I always check my root balls for color and size after harvest and I noticed that these were turning brown.
I have seen my share of root rot, but the cases were much worse, or this is something-else.
You can see it was well into root binding itself in the small container.
The poor thing was in only a 3 gallon bucket of Happy Frog and fed the Fox Farms nutrient system.
This is a picture from this morning just prior to harvest.
I could see no physical signs that the plant was in trouble.
Normal watering practices were followed, water let the top 2 to 3 inches dry out and water again; except it actually dried out 2 or 3 times in flower, due to the small container. The plant was never left dry for more than a day and never wilted.
Question: What is the probable cause of root discoloration?
