65 gallon Smartpot again - I found the roots did not begin to fill the pot - wasted a lot of time mixing 65 gallons of compost - So I am back to 50 litre tubs again this year.

I find the whole pot size issue to be a bunch of smoke being blown around. I've seen a four foot plant with a huge cola grown in a half gallon grow bag. I've got four plants under two foot tall in two gallon smart pots being grown under two six hundred hps lamps. There are so many other factors that go into determining plant size that too much blame or credit is given to pot sizes. Don't get me wrong, pot size will have some influence on plant size but it is not the over-riding factor in my opinion. Personally I prefer a three gallon container. I start my seeds in three ounce cups, once rooted real good they go into twenty ounce party cups, after that into a half gallon grow bag and finally into their three gallon containers. This grow I used the two gallon smart pots trying to keep the height of the plants under three feet. I fimmed/topped them, pinched out some of the growing tips, supercropped them all and even fed them low levels of P durning vegging. To much P during vegging promotes stretching. For the first two weeks of 12/12 I also kept my metal halides burning in an effort to keep the stretch to a minimum. None of my six plants are over two feet tall and flowering nicely.
My two lemon skunks are in one gallon grow bags and almost as big as the ones in two gallon pots.

I wanna put some clones in 1lt pots Thats 4X smaller than a gallon But to quote form the thread owner of pot size >

I only wanna grow them to 12" in 1lt pots because of room probs

The info here is pretty much what I have found is the best way to go as well. However, when I flip to 12/12 I re-pot at the same time. My setup makes it challenging to have 5 gallon buckets in the veg room however, so I re-pot when I move them to flower.
Has anyone played around with flowering immediately after a re-pot vs 1-2 weeks after re-potting?

Take a look at sea of green methods. The entire method might not suit you, but the idea of growing clones in small pots is viable, the key is minimal veg time

This is all BS, as long as ferts are used you can grow a friggin tree in a 1 gal pot.
You could grow it till nothing in the pot is left but a white tangle of roots and it will be fine.
A better post would have been "Use 1 gal for each month of vegging to 'prevent' root bound stress issues"
And even then, ive had plants in that kind of stress still do perfectly fine.
This post, while good intentions, is half assed, and hearsay.

This is not true I have been growing for a very long time!! A 1.5 gallon pot will give you a very nice 2 to 2.5 foot plant a 3 gallon would be better for the plant but your plants will still be very efficent in the 1.5gallon also so I am not disagreeing I dont want people thinking that you cant grow a 2 to 2.5 foot plant in a 1.5gallon pot. very good pot though!!

Is there a difference between transplanting gradually (starter to Red Cps to 1.5 gallon pot to 3 gallon) vs. going from starter cups into 3 gallon pots?
I thought you would want to transplant as little as possible?

Any mention of the sativas requiring larger pots (5+) as they have more complicated root systems than indicas?

Since my Durban has just sprouted and is in the cups I still have the time to make a final decision whether I want to put it in the 5 gallon or 3 gallon pot. How is the container restriction affecting the yield I wonder?

Your gonna have a difference.....more roots give higher yield.But more roots also means more plant.3 gl is good choice.

decision decisions, I have no idea wth I'm going to do now, heh... gamble or not to gamble with a 5gallon pot - I'll wait until the final day to make a decision I guess, heh

If you plan to do any type of topping/training go with the 5 if you like.But if you do go with a 5 i suggest training from the start so she don't go all krazy on ya.
