thanks guys! Will the smaller pot size also help keep her at a manageable size (ie not bursting outside the growbox?)

yea smaller containers limit maximum size of the plant. the size of the pot you need will depend on the light you use as well. if you have like a 250w hps theres no reason to use a 5 gal pot, a 2-3g will be sufficient in that case.

i'm using a fixture with two t12's

A 2 bulb t12 fixture is not putting out that much light and unless you are willing to veg for a very long time a train the plants so theyre wide instead of tall you wont need 5g pots.
