Potential set up

if i had a way, I wouldnt be in the newbie section of the forum.

How do you say foil is a no no, if half the set ups i've seen on here, had foil SOME WHERE.....

stop telling me the lamp is no good, if your not going to explain why...... what is wrong with it?
waaay to much heat. very inefficient light source for growing

Well, I've already got 2 250 watt halogen lamps, with color spectrum of 2700k, which is the correct spectrum for the flowering stage so, the lamp cant be that bad.....

Stick around long enough and you'll know why I wouldn't suggest using halogens. bongsmilie

Check your local craigslist for used low bay shop fixtures. Usually they have a used 400 or 600 watt bulb. Either HPS or MH. They usually sell cheap. Here's a good link below how to use these as grow lights. Do it yourself easy. I did two and use them to veg. Both mine are used 400 watt MH. I wired the ballast remote, used the plastic bowl reflector they came with, sprayed one silver and one white and they work fantastic.

that's almost exactly what i do! i bought two 400 watt high bay lights off CL last year for $40 a piece, lamps even worked fine although i replaced them to be sure. disassembled it to the guts, made the ballast remote, and fashioned a hood using sheet metal from HD. works great!

Yes, it was definitely hot in there. Luckily, my family likes the house cool, and we keep ac on 74, plus, I have the window open on nicer days. I have one ceiling fan on high right now, and I will get at least one more fan in the room.

Other than the lights being hot, they will work fine wont they? gotta be better than 4 23 watt 2700k bulbs like other people grow with...

For the amount you'll spend on electricity for 500 watts of halogen its not worth i....not only that but your only gettin like 6,000 lumens...if you put 4 23 watt cfl's you'll be getting 6,000 lumens for 92 watts...see where im comin from? And foil will not help heat, wood with ultra white consruction paper stapled on would be better than foil or ultra white flat paint

If thats your response, honestly, no need to respond.

Dr. Greenhorn, Thank you

I've been told they are hot, and I noticed it, setting up the room.
I just went to check, and it was extremely hot. I wish I had seen the responses about the halogens, before i got them :'(
I thought I read that they were good some where :'(.

Im going to try to keep them on until 12, if they arent TOO hot. but Im assuming their going to be way too hot :'(.

these damn plants are not going to grow man. everything has gone wrong since i got them Thursday.

no problem dude.

but that's not the attitude to take. they'll grow. :D check out this forum. --->https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-fluorescent-lighting/ .... should help you out by reading a few of them threads. also I would seriously consider doing without the halogen.

one more tip: the mirrors are among the least reflective materials you can use. counterintuitive, but that's the way she goes.

If that is your response, go out and buy those halogens. You do that.

The sooner you can the better and remember everyone is usually trying to help you, no one is gonna try an steer you wrong here

t5 is what you want bull. You can veg. with a dual t8 but for you want t5's. Type t5 flourescent fixture into google then hit the shopping tab at the top. That's a good start to get you an idea. You don't need to spend allot.

Can you not get a t5 set up good for flowering?

I figured I want to get one GOOD lamp at least, and a bunch of little CFLs surrounding.
Id like to keep at least 500 watts+ going on the babies.
I've seen nice bud under a T5. I'm spoiled and live in hawaii so I flower a lot of my stuff outdoors. but the indoor grow I use a HID light for flowering. you can use the T5 for flowering. and then as you gain experience, you might wanna step up to a HID light..... growing herb can be very addicting, lol
