Potentially harmful?

So today I examined the 6 ladies as I do routinely and came across what looks like "mingee's" or "fruit flies" of some sort. They fly around mostly in the bucket and I have put up sticky fly catchers to defend the plants somewhat. Minutes later I moved some soil on the top in each bucket and even more of them flew out as if they had been living within the soils. Are these harmful and what do you think they could possibly be? Wont lie, these fuckers have me worried. Even if they are not harmful, the last thing I want is dank bud with tiny little bugs in my "dank bud" haha.

You have fungus gnats. Many many threads here on how to deal with them. I have not had to deal with them, but sprinkling cinnamon (or using a cinnamon-based gnat treatment) has received favorable review. cn

It seems to!! I'd give it a shot. The obvious plan B is a modern insecticide, and plan C is to topdress with diatomaceous earth. It apparently bugs the bugs into bugging out. cn
Dooooppeeeee. I've had a problem with a few gnats but nothing major.. At least for my main plant, the others got a few bites in em'.

I've used cinnamon with success, but it sounds like OP may have them worse than I did. Makes your grow smell nice, too.

Thanks for the information everyone! I will try out the cinnamon method and pray for success. So far, the gnats have not attacked the plant from above the soil and I hope they are not attacking my rooting system instead. I'm guessing they are trying to lay eggs since I keep finding them within the first half inch of soil or so. So, when using the cinnamon, do I just sprinkle it on the top or do I mix it with a little on the top? or maybe both.

I'd work it in a ways. The active oil is volatile, and working it in makes it last longer.
get one of those big thrift-store containers ... you might need a generous amount. cn

I wouldn't go too crazy with it. I didn't have any noticeable problems and I haven't heard of any from anyone else. I applied (mixing it in with the top bit of soil) about, idk, i'd say one half to one table spoon of cinnamon per 3 gallon pot. I'm not sure what other people use but that's what I did, I had to apply it twice, though.

The fly larva will live below the soil and eat on the root hairs. You can get mosquito dunks and mix it with your nutes. It had a bacteria (BT) that kills the larva. You can also spray the little buggers with neem. Covering the soil with a layer of sand can work too, but not too thick or it makes it diffiuclt for the soil to get oxygen.
